pass along.

Alleghany County authorities are on the
scene of a fatal tractor trailer
accident.

It happened just after 2 A-M on
Interstate 64 at milemarker 8.

Officials say the tractor trailer went
over the overpass and landed on Indian
Draft Road. As a result, Indian Draft
Road at the Callahan end is closed.
Also, the right lane of of I-64 east is
closed. Authorities say they're not
sure how long the roads will be closed.

invest more in higher education.

However, sharp contrasts were
drawn over whether illegal immigrants
should be granted in- state tuition.

Tim Kaine says yes if they're
actively pursuing legal status.

Jerry Kilgore says no.

He doesn't think illegal
immigrants should reap the same
benefits as legal residents.

Meanwhile, Tim Kaine says
creating a college in southside would
bring new industry to the region.

jeopardy.

After a zoning permit was
rejected last night by the planning
commission.

August A developer wants to convert
180-acres of farmland near Fairfield
into a residential community called
Dixie Farm.

Many who live nearby say the
development would ruin their quality of
life.

Before the developer can start
building, he has to get approval to
change the zoning from agricultural to
residential.

The planning commission's
recommendation will now to go to the
board of supervisors.

The board will make the final
decision sometime next month.

about the home opener just days away, a
few are disappointed.

because Lane Stadium's westside
expansion is still not ready.

Affected fans will be displaced for
at least the first two home games.

Beyond that, Virginia Tech is not

finding a new temporary home in
Southside.

Officials with the Danville Humane
Society traveled to Winston Salem to
pick up ten dogs and cats that had been
rescued from the storm-ravaged area.

The animals will be cared for in
Danville until new homes can be found
for them.

Shelter director Paulette Dean
hopes the tragedy of the hurricane will
convince emergency officials to let
people bring their animals with them
next time.

teenager's effort to send teddy bears
to children displaced by the storm.

Bethany Bidgood has been giving
donated bears to children at a local

domestic violence shelter for two
years.

Now she wants to expand the effort
to include the youngest Katrina
victims.

back in Roanoke after spending two
weeks helping Hurricane Katrina
victims.

growing number of people who want to
participate in the agency's relief
efforts.

In the wake of Katrina, the Red
