when an experimental airplane had to
make an emergency landing near Claypool
Hill in Tazewell County.

Two people were on board the
single engine Zenith Zodiac when it was
forced to land on Route 19.

State police say the pilot-
Joseph Nash of Pounding Mill- didn't
have enough gas to make it back to the
Tazewell County Airport.

The road was cleared in a little
over two hours and the plane was towed
to the airport.

No charges will be filed.

after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf
Coast.

Johnson was serving in the Sunni
Triangle, while his family rode out the
hurricane in Biloxi.

A family friend cleared out her
basement and made a make shift

apartment for the family.

Johnson flies back to Iraq on the

found a way to keep an old landfill
from contaiminating nearby wells.

yesterday to the state Department of
Environmental Quality detailing its
clean-up of the site on Bell Town Road.

Contaminants from the landfill ...
which closed in 1994 ... have been
seeping into local residential wells.

The city now plans to use
extraction wells to catch the
contaminated groundwater before it
reaches those wells ... it's also
extending public water services to six

other nearby homes.

Cleanup should take 8 to 10 years.

was last seen Monday evening.

Police say Taylor left home

week and kayaks twice a week.

when an experimental airplane had to
make an emergency landing near Claypool
Hill in Tazewell County.

Two people were on board the
single engine Zenith Zodiac when it was
forced to land on Route 19.

State police say the pilot-
Joseph Nash of Pounding Mill- didn't
have enough gas to make it back to the
Tazewell County Airport.

The road was cleared in a little
over two hours and the plane was towed
to the airport.

No charges will be filed.

charges for 20 people including bear
poaching and other violations.

The Department of Game and
Inland Fisheries concluded the
investigation this week.

Charges include baiting of
bears, hunting bears out of season,

trespassing and possession and sale of
untaxed alcohol.

The state says the violations
took place in Alleghany, Botetourt,
Craig, Franklin, Montgomery and Patrick
Counties.

two area campuses.

The first one was held on May 4-th at
Virginia Tech.

Oregon Senator Mark Hatfield, a leading
critic of U-S involvement in Vietnam,
was on campus to address a forestry
dinner.

State police moved in as a crowd of
more than one-thousand people gathered
at the Continuing Education Center
where he was speaking.

Hatfield later moved to the student
center where he held a question and
answer session, but refused to join the
protestors on out on the lawn.

Two people were arrested.

The same week, some 200 students at
Hollins College held a sit-in to oppose
President Nixon's decision to mine
North Vietnamese harbors.

The protest remained peaceful.
