about 50 cars killed one person and
injured several others early this
morning on Interstate 77 near Fancy
Gap.

Police say 52-year-old James Sherman
Largen of Dobson, North Carolina was
walking along the interstate just after
five o'clock, when he was hit by a car.

Largen died at the scene.

Police say the car did NOT stop and
they don't know who the driver is.

There were at least 15 wrecks
reported this morning in a five mile
stretch of the interstate -- shutting
it down for several hours.

Dense fog was in the area, but
officials aren't sure if that was the
cause.

home in Roanoke County and left a
firefighter and his family without a
home.

Street around 3:30 Sunday morning.

The family was out of town when
the fire broke out.

Officials say the intense heat
made it difficult for the firefighters
to get the blaze under control.

The cause is still unknown at
this time

a record number of students have
enrolled in schools, including the

highest percentage of female students
in decades.

At one school in Kabul, so many
women have returned to the classrooms
that the school barely copes with the
demand.

Under the *Taliban rule* -- the
curriculum was restricted -- schools
were destroyed and Afghan females were
excluded from the education system.

Today, according to the UN, more
than a million girls are at school in
Afghanistan.

this week that their 6 month old Saint
Bernard had done just that.

*Elsie* was rushed to an animal
hospital where a doctor found the

13-inch *serrated* knife between the
puppy's esophagus and stomach.

The blade had been inside Elsie for
about four days, and was removed during
a two hour operation.

She has an 8-inch scar, but is doing
fine.
