A tractor trailer accident on
Interstate 81 North near Draper in
Pulaski County is blocking the left
lane.
The accident happened around 1 o-clock
this morning near mile marker 93.
The truck was carrying carpet. VDOT
says cleanup will take most of the day.
State police are also reporting an
accident at 72- 85 Turkey Hill road in
Bedford.
They say it involves a pick- up truck
and an S-U-V.

as it becomes available.

teenager was injured after being hit by
a car.

Mall and North Main street.
Police say the driver failed to
yeild the right of way to 17-year-old
Rachel Anderson.

GRAPHIC=Fire Investigation A firefighter and his family are
left homeless after a fire destroyed
their home in Roanoke County.

Firefighters arrived to this
house in the 58-hundred block of Main
Street around 3:30 Sunday morning.
The family was out of town when
the fire broke out.
Officials say the intense heat
made it difficult for the firefighters
to get the blaze under control.
The Red Cross is assisting the
family with supplies and clothing.
The cause is still unknown at
this time
The home is a total loss.

killed on the job was laid to rest
yesterday.

55-year-old David "Peewee" Carter.
Carter and another longtime city
worker, Roger Coleman, were both killed
Wednesday while trying to put in a
sewer line.

Federal and local authorities are
investigating what caused the accident.

inspirational story may have helped one
local Roanoke group accomplish a lofty
goal.

VO-NAT You most likely recognize this Rudy,
but what about this one.
This is Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger.
His life story inspired the
famous movie of a small town boy, with
big Notre Dame football dreams.
Rudy has long since met his goal,
and now spends much of his time as an
inspirational speaker.
A group taking small steps
towards a big goal in Roanoke brought
Rudy to Northside High School.
Project 50 has big plans for the
Cave Spring High School track and
field.

troubles, Project 50 has not given up
their dream of a new track and field.

GRAPHIC=I-77 Accident One person was killed and
several others injured early yesterday
morning when a series of accidents took
place on Interstate 77 near Fancy Gap.

Police say 52-year-old James Sherman
Largen of Dobson, North Carolina was
walking along the interstate just after
five o'clock, when he was hit by a car.
Largen died at the scene.
Police say the car did NOT stop and
they don't know who the driver is.
There were at least 15 wrecks
reported yesterday morning in a five
mile stretch of the interstate --
shutting it down for several hours.
Dense fog was in the area, but
officials aren't sure if that was the
cause.

expand its "family."

The Legion held a car show over
the weekend to help raise money for its
new *Adopt a Hero's Family* campaign.
The Legion is adopting the
families of the military men and women
who are now serving in Iraq.
Organizers say this gives
families an opportunity to celebrate
holidays like Christmas both here, and
abroad.
The legion presented banners to
the families of the military personnel
currently serving.
Prilipp says the banners are just
one of many ways the Legion is trying
to show their support for the armed
forces.
