They say a bucket truck hit a
train trestle in that area around 6:30
this morning.

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident An accident reconstruction team


is expected to return today to the
scene of last night's fatal accident on
I-64 in Alleghany County.

State Police say the car involved
sped though a license check at an
on-ramp just minutes before.

However, there was NO chase or
pursuit involved.

Officials say a westbound 1968 Pontiac
Firebird crossed the median at milepost

25 near Clifton Forge and struck a
guard rail, throwing two people out
before going down an embankment. One
person was pronounced dead at the
scene. The other was airlifted to
Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

identification.

Drivers should note that traffic may be
stopped for a while between the two
Clifton Forge exits on I-64 while the
accident reconstruction team does its
work today.

connection with a woman's abduction and
murder three months ago.

June Authorities say physical evidence links
Brian Alden Kennemore to the murder of
Jennifer Marie Popa.

She was found dead June 28th inside
her burning home on Franklin Turnpike.

Kennemore is in custody in the
Chesapeake City jail.

He is charged with second degree
murder and abduction.

Police are still looking for a
motive.

GRAPHIC=Murder Investigation Authorities in Appomattox County


are asking for help from other
jurisdictions as they continue
investigating a murder.

VO-NAT The sheriff's department says a


meter reader found the body of 33 year
old Dorothy "Dee-Dee" Harris in her
living room around 12-30 yesterday
afternoon.

They say Harris lived with her

husband and children along Route 26
near Bent Creek.

No word on what caused her death.

An autopsy will be performed
today in Roanoke.

now some Roanoke Marines are on their
way home.

January 8 Nearly 60 of the 90 B-Company
Reserves who left in January are set to
come back tomorrow.

The group was stationed in Iraq's
Al-Anbar province, where one Marine
died and another lost part of a leg in
a roadside bomb.

The 60-Marines are now at Camp
Lejeune in North Carolina, but are said
to arrive in Roanoke around two o'clock
tomorrow.

Officials say the rest will be

back October 6th.

of the American Red Cross in downtown
Roanoke.

They've worked to staff relief
workers in the wake of Hurricane
Katrina all while dealing with a
flooding situation of their own.

were being made to the roof of the
Church Avenue location when heavy rains
pounded the area.

University are temporarily calling
Washington and Lee home.

The student body at W&L has raised
nearly seven thousand dollars to help
the displaced students buy clothes and
textbooks.

The students hope to return to the
New Orleans area for the spring
semester.

On Thursday, W&L will hold a
candlelight vigil in support of the
victims and displaced residents.

class- in a school that's designed to
teach girls not just traditional

subjects but leadership skills-

The head of this school Meredith
Winn says girls at the middle school
age tend to lose their voice in a
traditional classroom and become more
timid in class- but she says that's not
so in an all-girls setting.

The private, non profit school is
located in the Jefferson Center-
Tuition is about 65- hundred dollars a
year.

problem.
