Are you one of those hip busy people
doing work where ever and when ever at

the Evil Twin next time you log in at

PCWorld dot com an Evil Twin attack
works like this. The hacker sets up
his computer to transmit a signal that
turns his PC into an access point, or
Wi-Fi hotspot. He'll even give it a
legitimate-sounding name, like T-Mobile

The hacker then puts his laptop in a

It is almost impossible to tell if you
are logged on to an Evil Twin - But
PCWorld dot com reccomends you do the
following to protect yourself:
Take- "Check Your Wi-Fi Settings " Check Your Wi-Fi Settings: Many laptops
are set to constantly search and log on
to the nearest hotspot. While this
option might seem convenient, it does
not allow you to monitor which hotspots
you are logging on to and determine if
they are legitimate. Turning off this
option will prevent your computer from
logging on to a hotspot without your
knowledge.
Take- "Pay Attention to Dialog Boxes" Pay Attention to Dialog Boxes: Pop-up

protect you. If you are lucky enough to
have not clicked the "never show this

warnings carefully before agreeing to

Take- "Use One of Your Credit Cards on Use One of Your Credit Cards on the Web the Web Only" Only: Open a credit card account that
is used solely for the purposes of
shopping on the Web. Ideally, you
should be able to access account
records online so you don't have to
wait for monthly statements to monitor
any activity.
Take- "Conduct Private Business in Conduct Private Business in Private: Do Private " you really need to move money around or
check your bank statements when you are
connected to a public hotspot? If you
restrict your public surfing to Web
pages you don't mind a stranger reading

One other note this mornin'- The F-B-I
has issued a warning that people
identifying themselves as U-S court
employees are calling individuals and
telling them that they have been
selected for jury duty. They then ask
the victims to verify names and Social

Security numbers and then ask for
credit card numbers. If the request is
refused, they are threatened with
fines. Officials want to let people
know that the courts do not call people
and ask them for personal information.
If you do get one of these calls,
police ask that you not give any of the
information.
