Blacksburg around 1:45 this morning.

caught fire around 1:45 in the morning.
By daylight the extent of the damage
was impressive. The nearly 100 year old
structure was completely blackened.

More than sixty firefighters
responded to the three alarm blaze on
Whetstone Road.
The two story house was leveled
and it took several hours to hose down
the rubble. No one was at home when the
fire broke out around eight.
The cause of the fire is under

in the central Virginia area.

was picked up last week when two
investigators caught him in the act of
breaking into a store on Timberlake
Road.

simple smash-and-grab affairs, but Todd
seemed to know what he was doing.

road project.

Co-Offensive Back of the Week for his
performance on Saturday against the
West Virginia Mountaineers.
The redshirt junior rolled up 251
yards of total offense and three
touchdowns in Virginia Tech's 34-17 win
in Morgantown. He ran for a career-high
74 yards and a touchdown and completed
15-of-17 passes for 177 yards and two
scores.

met Senator George Allen. Alex Stadler

from Cincinnati is down to Ohio State

opener for the first time ever with
their 10 to 7 win over Liberty.

Quarterback Jonathan Wilson and he was
named the Big South Offensive Player of
the week for his performance. Wilson
had 143 total yards including a career
long 34 yard touchdown run. Wilson

Head Coach Cal McCombs snap a 4 game
conference losing streak.
The defense stepped up as well for
the Keydets. Specifically from
Linebacker Justin Huggard. He was
named the Big South Defensive Player of
the week. The senior from Robert E.
Lee High had a team high 14 tackles and
huge inteception against Liberty. This
is the 3rd time in 5 weeks that he was
won the award.

Relief is on the way for some
Bedford residents whose well-water has
been contaminated by the old Bedford
City landfill.

Work crews today began
construction on a half-mile long
pipeline that will provide city water
to people along Bell Town and Draper
Roads.
Local wells have had problems with
contaminants leaching into the water
from the city's old landfill, which
closed more than ten years ago.
Construction should be finished by
December.
The 18-hundred dollar fee to
connect to the water line will be
waived for the affected residents.
