morning fire.

morning at Zeta Psi SIGH on Roanoke
Street.
It apparently started on a couch on the
front porch.
Although firefiefighters were quick to
arrive on the scene, the blaze did
significant damage.

GRAPHIC=Body Found Authorities in Roanoke discovered
a badly decomposed body in the basement
of a house.

:01 Police responded to this house on
Laconia Avenue off Williamson, after
the owner discovered a dead body in the
basement of his rental property.
Police immediately began
interviewing neighbors, who said there
had been a foul smell coming from the
house for the last couple of weeks.
Although some neighbors are
saying that the death could be a
suicide, officials on the scene could
not confirm or deny that suspicion.

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A single-car accident in Bedford
County leaves one person dead and
another seriously injured.

State police say this pickup truck
was headed south on Blackwater Road in
New London just after 7 o-clock last
night when the driver apparently lost
control.
The truck veered off the road and
flipped over ... both the driver and a
passenger were thrown from the pickup.
One of them was pronounced dead at
the scene ... the other was flown to
Lynchburg General Hospital.
No names or other details have
been released.
Police believe alcohol was a
factor in the crash.

high school football.

Now, city council is waiting on a
report that will detail the price
difference between refurbishing and
rebuilding Victory Stadium.
That report is expected within
the next 30-45 days.
Regardless the recommendation,
one councilman says more thought needs
to be put into taking full advantage of
the stadium.
Brian Wishneff plans to introduce
his proposal to city council today.
He says his ideas for the stadium
are similar to the thought process that
went into the Hotel Roanoke Conference
Center.
That was think big, and big
things will happen.

combines modern-day technology with a
20th century style.

Ferrum College is now in the
middle of a 15-million dollar
construction project, which includes a
new dorm, a new conference center and
new computer labs.
This is only the second time the
school has undergone construction in
92-years.
Officials say the improvements
are almost necessary to remain
competitive.
The renovations should be
completed within the next year.
Officials are also excited by the
school's record enrollment.
There are nearly 400-new students
this fall -- the largest number of new
students in 12-years.

for their counterparts along the Gulf
Coast.

GRAPHIC=NONE Three people were killed in a
multi-vehicle accident in Louisa County
including a ten year old boy from
Roanoke.
Eleven others were injured.
The accident happened around nine
o-clock Saturday night on Route 15 just
south of Route 33.
Police say a car was trying to
pass a truck when it sideswiped an
oncoming minivan.
Both vehicles slid sideways into
opposite lanes, with the car hitting a
station wagon and the minivan striking
a truck.
The driver of the car was from
New York. She died at the scene.
A Roanoke woman driving the
minivan and four of her passengers were
taken to the University of Virginia
Medical Center.
Two other passengers, an adult
female who has not been identified and
ten-year-old John Thomas Mosier of
Roanoke, died at the scene.
State Police are
investigating.

propane explosion at a relative's house
in Michigan killed six Giles County
children.

Yesterday afternoon, Mark and
Joyce Bryant spoke in front of their
congregation at the Riverview Baptist
Church.
Mark Bryant says if there is one
thing they wanted to say, it was thank
you.
The Bryants say their two
children who survived the blast, Caleb
and Sarah, are doing much better, and
are now back home.
