Officers say a person was
found shot to death inside Amelio's
Market around 5:20 yesterday evening.
A police spokeswoman said
officers trying to confirm whether the
victim was a customer or employee.
She would not say whether the
person who found the body and called
9-1-1 was a customer or employee.
Neighbors gathered near the
store as police worked the crime scene.
Officials would not say if
they had any suspects, only that no
arrests have been made.

Monday That was just one of a nearly a
dozen 911-calls concerning a fire at a
home near Seventh and Dale Streets.
Initially, Roanoke dispatchers
thought it was in their jurisdiction
and sent crews to Seventh Street in
*the city.*
But, after several more calls-
Vinton dispatchers discovered it was in
their town.

V-Dot has come up with three options
to deal with the problems at the
intersection of Colonial Avenue and
Wonju Street.
Two of the options would extend Wonju
all the way to Brandon Avenue.
But that would force the state to buy
and demolish several homes and
businesses.

Flood of '85.
And finally a project to reduce
the impact of high water along the
Roanoke River is moving forward.

Heavy equipment is now working a
stretch of the river near the Roanoke
Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Using a series of bench cuts, the
Army Corps of Engineers and a
contractor are terracing the river
bank.
Officials say the improvements
will not prevent a flood as severe as
the Flood of '85, but the project will
offer significant protection.

Mountain Lake are re-generating.

rejected the company's proposal to add
a new electrical substation in Eastern
Franklin County.
The company said the station was
crucial to keep up with the area's
growth, but many residents said the
site was too visible.
Now, officials say they've come up
with a NEW plan that would keep the
station out of sight.

GRAPHIC=Fire Aftermath Students whose school caught fire
last week in Campbell County are back
in class...just in a different
surrounding.

More than 325 students were
displaced when fire broke out in the
Brookneal Elementary school gymnasium
last Thursday night.
Students have missed two days of
class while educators worked overtime
to find room for them in nearby
schools.
Most of them ended up at William
Campbell Middle School where officials
say the first day came off without a
hitch.
