started out smoothly but a bomb threat
during the concert stopped the show for
a brief period of time.

Many thought it was all part of
the act.

The call, which came out of
Charlottesville, pointed to the stage
area as the possible location of the
bomb.

Bomb sniffing dogs were already
on the premises and found nothing.

After an hour and half, police
decided it was safe and the show went
on.

someone who buglarized an A-T-M.

It happened just after eight o'clock
last night at the Roanoke Valley Credit
Union on Fifth Street.

Police say the suspect got away with
an unspecified amount of cash.

Investigators are looking for a light

colored mini-van.

A. Cox was in her bed at her home on
Shady Grove Road yesterday afternoon
when she was killed.

member was putting away a high powered
rifle in the basement, when it
accidentally discharged.

The bullet went through the

floor, ricocheted and hit Rachal.

The Sheriff says the whole
community is mourning.

the school system need to do whatever
it takes to make Bogle Field safe.

That is where Cave Spring and Hidden
Valley play their football games.

Administrators say the field is still
safe to play on but it can't be fixed
until the end of the season.

A number of factors contributed to
the problem.

Workers cut the grass too short, it
was watered too little, and the
irrigation system failed to work
properly.


The school system estimates it will
cost nearly fifteen thousand dollars to
fix the field.

Russ Potts says he deserves to
participate in Sunday night's statewide
gubernatorial debate and he's asking a
judge to prove him right.

The candidate filed a lawsuit in U-S
District Court yesterday. He says the
University of Virginia Center for
Politics -- co-sponsor of the event --
is obligated to include all candidates
in the debate since the center receives
federal and state money.

But rules established by debate
organizers allow Potts to participate
only if he receives at least 15 percent
support in two independent polls.

traffic headache in central Virginia.

Local leaders and VDOT yesterday
dedicated the final portion of the
Route 29 Bypass in Amherst County.

The 12-mile, 270-million dollar
road is expected to ease traffic
congestion on Wards Road in Lynchburg
and Route 29 Business in Madison
Heights.

Eliminating those congestion
problems, officials say, should
encourage economic development in the
region.

Cline says the Charlottesville
area remains the last bottleneck on
Route 29 in Virginia.

Lynchburg's bypass should carry up
to 20-thousand cars per day.

GRAPHIC=Iraq Homecoming It was another homecoming in

Roanoke yesterday as the second and
final wave of Company B marines
returned home.

The Marines were greeted with
welcome home signs, applause, and hugs
from their loved ones.

These Marines have spent seven
months in Iraq attached to the 3rd
Battalion, a group of marines involved
in some of the heaviest fighting during
Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Many of the marines were thankful
to be home, and have plans to eat a
home cooked meal, go out to a nice
restaurant, or indulge in anything that
doesn't taste like an M-R-E.

In all, several Company-B marines
were injured in Iraq, and one reservist
was killed.
