Roanoke Street in downtown
Christiansburg.
Police say they were trying to pull
over 32-year-old Leroy Robinson for
drugs, when Robinson took off.

Den Hill Road and into this park --
where he ditched his car and ran into
the woods.
A state police helicopter and k-9 units
were called-in to help search for
Robinson.
About three hours later, authorities
found him and his 3-month old child

during the chase either by force or own

She was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial

face any charges.

fire in Roanoke tonight.

A fire broke out in an apartment
complex near the corner of Memorial
Avenue and Mountain View Terrace around
9:30.
Neighbors feared three people were
trapped inside, only one had to be
rescued by firefighters.
There were no injuries, but the
apartment suffered extensive damage.
The cause is under investigation.

when David and two of his fellow
soldiers were on a routine mission in
Iraq.
Suddenly, the humvee they were in hit
a landmine.
The driver struggled to maintain
control.

humvee looked like after the explosion.
Even more remarkable is that David
and his comrades suffered just minor
injuries.
Their ordeal earned them each a

shocked by the murder of a Smyth County
family.
Deputies say the three
members of the Evans family were found
shot to death inside their home near
Chilhowie last night.

suspect, John Ray Gullion, but say

Last Month Ben Fawley has been charged with
possession of a firearm while a
convicted felon.
Under state law- police can't
discuss the details of that felony.
The 38- year- old is currently in
jail awaiting trial for possession of
child pornography.
Police filed the latest charges
while investigating the death of Taylor
Behl.
Her body was discovered in a
shallow grave in Mathews County last
week.
Investigators say Fawley was in
possession of a firearm before she
disappeared.
Police say they won't make an
arrest in Behl's case until they know
how she died.

The group says the risk of sudden
infant death syndrome, or SIDS, could
be reduced with some simple measures.

days after a massive earthquake that
could have killed as many as
30-thousand people.

dramatic rescues, the US diverted eight
helicopters from Afghanistan to deliver
supplies to Pakistan.
Drops include blankets, tents,

Earlier, Pakistan had refused
help from the neighboring country.
Saturday's earthquake measured 7
point 6 on the Richter scale.

from the Avian Flu in Asia- and world
health officials say more deaths could
come if it becomes a pandemic.

here in the states, but poultry farmers
dealt with the low pathogen form of the
disease in 2002.
At that point, Virginia lost more
than 4-million turkeys and chickens,
resulting in more than 130-million
dollars in losses.
But, one official says its

infect flocks in the U.S.

students at Addison Aerospace Middle
School put money in jugs representing
the teacher they would most like to see
bald.
The deal was, the person with the
most money in their jug got shaved,
unless, the total was more than a
grand.

stands. Shaun Dean caught both Lance
Berkman's grand slam in the the 8th

the 18th. Dean says he's never even

Swofford commented on it today. The
University of Virginia has suspended
Offensive Tackle Brad Butler for this
weekend's game with 4th ranked Florida
State.
This is not good for a team
that has lost it's last 2 ball-games
and returns to Scott Stadium with many
players out with injuries.
Butler has been suspended due to
his unsportsmanlike, controversial play
against Boston College.

Last Saturday Virginia Tech got some good news

Sophomore Linebacker Vince Hall was
named the ACC defensive lineman of the
week. He picked a ball out of mid-air
in the 3rd quarter and scored his first
career touchdown that put the Hokies in
Cruise Control in their win over
Marshall.
Hall also chipped in 10 tackles,
including three solo stops, and two
quarterback hurries on Saturday.

Front. Dave Leitao has landed another
top 1-hundred recruit. Solomon Tat who
is ranked number 96 by rivals dot com
has committed to play basketball in
Charlotttesville. Tat chose Virginia

6-5, 219 pound guard.

start in New York.

The annual parade was led by
supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia
who said he knew all along that,
despite gray skies, it wouldn't rain.
The event started with a tribute
to Columbus yesterday.
Scalia laid a wreath in honor of
the explorer's travels.
The parade included more than one
hundred floats and bands and other
entries.
It was not Scalia's first
Columbus Day parade.
He marched in the celebration
when he was a high school band member.

the desire to help hurricane victims.

Fourth grader Johnny Wilson swam
from Alcatraz to San
Francisco, raising 30-thousand dollars
in donations in the process.
He made the mile-and-a-half swim
in the choppy, 53-degree water of San
Francisco Bay in under two hours.
Wilson, who'd practiced in the
bay twice a week, says the swim was
tiring but that he kept telling
himself, "You're almost there, you're
almost there."
