media he said: "I want this race to be
decided on the qualifications of the
candidates, not the politically
motivated release of misinformation
about an "administrative inquiry"
concerning used Army Surplus which in
fact was mostly unusable and long since
accounted for."

Alley is running against Incumbent
Sheriff Mark Armentrout.
Neither candidate would even talk about
the investigation during the debate,
but afterwards Armentrout issued a
rebuttal statement... revealing more
details about the investigation.
He says the sheriff's office was
contacted by the department of defense
three months after he took office.
Federal officials wanted an audit of
surplus military equipment. Armentrout
says he told officials what he had and
they were concerned it didn't match
their records. Armentrout says he
immediately turned the investigation
over to State Police...

of sexual harrasment.
The lawyer who first filed the
lawsuit against George McMillan said
there may be as many as 40 women "out
there" with similar stories.

first announced its intention to build
a pharmacy on Langhorne Road in
Lynchburg, the city has finally given
its answer ... and the answer is "no".

section of land where an apartment
complex currently sits at the
intersection of Langhorne and Murrell
(MUR-uhl) Roads.
After more than a year of
discussion and negotiations with the
city, the issue finally came before
council for a vote tonight.
The effort to rezone the property
failed on a 3-to-3 tie, with council
member Ceasor Johnson abstaining.
Walgreens representative had
indicated this was their last, best
effort at striking a deal with the
city.

daughter are starting over, after fire
damaged their apartment and destroyed
most of their belongings last night.

The fire started in a bedroom,
and investigators say they have
narrowed the cause to two appliances

arrest, charged with holding an 18-year
old boarder against her will.

had been rooming with Julie and William
Heath when her family called authorites
after failing to hear from her for
several months.
When police found her at the
Heath's home she told them the couple
beat her, bound her with tape and kept

The woman had a facial fracture
as well as cuts and bruises.
The Heaths are charged with
abduction and malicious wounding.

their release.
The second poll of the season is
again well represented with teams from
Southwest and Central Virginia in the
Friday Football Extra region.

rescue workers pulled a little boy from
a collapsed building in Pakistan.

Rescuers used a high-tech infrared
mini-camera to locate the boy and see
him moving.
They used lifting gear to make their
way under piles of concrete, steel and
wood.
Three hours later, the child was
back in the arms of his father.
The boy was saved along with another
little girl, but thousands of other
kids didn't make it.
At least three schools crumbled in
the earthquake in this one small town
alone.

beacon of light at Roanoke College.

Katrina destroy her home and Dillard
University.
But Brevard now has a second
chance as the recipent of Roanoke
College's Hurricane Relief Fellowship.
She will host a series of
lectures and performances at Roanoke
College this fall.
And hopes to return to New
Orleans when the rebuilding begins.
