said 'no', big-box stores like Kohl's
and Old Navy may be moving into the
neighborhood after all.

Developers had hoped to turn this
tract of land just across the
city-county line into a major shopping
center.

Campbell County gave its okay, but
Lynchburg refused to rezone the land
where the entrance would go ... citing
safety and traffic concerns for the
area.

But the two sides never stopped
talking about finding some common
ground ... and reached an agreement
that Lynchburg city council approved
late last night that opens the door to
the project again.

Deshay Simmons broke into the home he
had been sharing with his girlfriend
and assaulted her.

SHE says he threatened to burn
the house down.

While Ashley Howard was downtown
swearing out warrants against Simmons,
fire broke out at the house on Court
Street.

A few hours later Simmons was
apprehended on 15th Street.

Learning Center to make sure they don't
have tuberculosis.

They'd been exposed to a person at
the center who had an active case of
the disease.

Center officials said it was a

volunteer who'd been there for
10-months.

skin test back in August.

At that time 3 people had positive
results.

therefore were not contagious. Health
officials are not able to determine if
these people contracted it from the
volunteer.

Their focus now is on retesting
everyone again, this started yesterday.

who may have been exposed to the
volunteer.

Health officials expect to have the
results back Thursday or Friday.


At this time no one from the downtown
learning center has shown any symptoms
of the disease.

File Health officials say the 2nd skin
tests for children and staff of the
center are neccesary because it can
take up to 12 weeks for some one who is
infected with disease to show an immune
response.

All of the children under 5 are
already taking preventive medicine
because of their immature immune
systems. But if this round of tests --
turns up negative, they can come off
the antibiotics.

the children and staff are at low risk
