:00 Ronde accidentally hit umpire
Butch Hannah in the face during this
scuffle with the Jets' Kevin Mawae
(MUH-WHY) in the second quarter of
their game this past Sunday. Even
though it was inadvertant, the NFL said
the fine was for quote -
"impermissible physical contact with a
game official." Ronde probably knew
the fine was coming. After the game he
described the incident by saying, "It
was two guys with their triple
testosterone running high, acting like
idiots."

:00 Also today, the Orioles took the
interim tag off of manager Sam
Perlozzo's title by giving him a
three-year contract. Perlozzo won just
23 games and lost 32 after replacing
Lee Mazzilli. He did that despite the
steroid suspension of first baseman

Rafael Palmeiro, the termination of the
contract of pitcher Sidney Ponson and
injuries to outfielder Sammy Sosa and
second baseman Brian Roberts.

... Robert S. Payne Elementary is
one of just nine schools in Virginia to
be selected as a Blue Ribbon School by
the U-S Department of Education.

Payne students have increased
their S-O-L test scores each of the
past three years.

Officials say it's a reflection of
the hard work by faculty, parents and
the students.
