GRAPHIC=VIPERS The Roanoke Valley Vipers will make

history tonight. The team will
actually play a game. The Vipers take
the ice in Richmond for an Exhibition
game. The UHL allows teams to carry 7
veteran players, but Jim Wiley has just
3 on his roster to start the

season----for good reason.

Now a Lynchburg woman's quest to
save a piece of family history is
giving a historic log cabin a new home.

neighborhood, a log cabin might stick
out like a sore thumb.

RUN02 But in Mary Katherine McIntosh's
backyard, the addition of this
125-year-old log home is like the final
piece in a family puzzle.

McIntosh's great-grandmother once
lived in the two-story cabin on what
used to be the Babcock farm property
near Concord.

It's been abandoned for close to
sixty years, but when McIntosh learned
of its existence, she decided to pay a
visit.

dismantling the cabin last month ...
and are now reconstructing it, piece by
piece here on Pearl Street.

With the exception of replacing a
board here and a beam there, the cabin
is still in good shape.

OUT Q=put things together. The dismantling and reconstruction

has turned up a few interesting items:
monogrammed spoons and an old harmonica
McIntosh thinks once belonged to her
great-uncle.

As the cabin comes together again,
she can't help but feel her ancestors
would be pleased.
