GRAPHIC=FFE Good evening everybody and
welcome to Friday Football Extra.
Tonight marks week number eight
of the regular season, and for several
teams the night also had the potential
to be the end of road as far as their
unbeaten status.
The highlights of 13 games are on
the way including a rare college game
in a high school stadium.
GRAPHIC=GRETNA/ALTAVISTA We begin with one of those
unbeatens - the Gretna Hawks.
The defending state champs have
had to play two of their games this
season on Monday nights, but this
evening the Hawks were on the road in
Altavista taking on the Colonels.

Gretna vs. Altavista It was homecoming tonight in
:00 Altavista and the fans were jacked up,
but my question is who in the heck
schedules Gretna for a homecoming
game???
The Hawks taking flight early on
as Tyon Bennett will pass the rock to
Jeremy Younger. The two hook up on the
play for a 36 yard touchdown and just
like that it's 6-to-nothing Hawks after
the missed kick.
Gretna will try to get it done
one more time as Bennett calls his own
number on a fourth and goal - but this
time the Colonels' defense puts a hat
on him and Altavista takes over.
From their own three, Antwan
Toller hands off to Cedric Brooks and
lo and behind he is thrown down in the
endzone for a safety and Gretna takes
an 8-to-nothing lead.
*CG 869 Gretna would look to increase the
lead, but the field goal is no good.
It mattered little as the Hawks hammer
the Colonels 47 to 7.

Eastern Montgomery vs. Glenvar The homecoming court was looking
:00 good in Highlander Heaven tonight as
they got set to roll into the stadium.
Early in the game on a busted
play - Glenvar's Devin Chappell turns
the wrong way, but says what the heck
I'll just keep this thing and run with
it. What a good idea as he scores from
20 yards out to make it a 7-to-nothing
game in favor of Glenvar.
On the Highlanders next
possession more of the same as Chappel
runs the option, fakes the pitch, and
goes in from 11 yards out untouched to
make it a 14-to-nothing lead in favor
of the home team.
With the Highlanders offense
rolling, the defense decided to join
the party. East Mont gambles on fourth
down and Ryan Mowles wraps up Antoine
Myatt for a loss giving Glenvar the
ball back in great field position.
*CG 883
On a key third down, Chappell
rolls to his left and finds Daniel
Ayers who picks up the first and much
more as he is finally brought down at
the four yard line.
Two plays later Carter Brown
scores on the 4 yard dash. Glenvar
whips Eastern Montgomery
56 to nothing.

Two plays later - Pierre Tinsley

you'll agree that was a good call as he

Staunton River's very next

Magna Vista vs. Martinsville Edwards gave his players some
:00 last second advice before hitting the
field.
Both teams struggled on offense
in the opening half as Bulldogs'
quarterback Tracy Hairston runs the
ball on a 12 yard keeper before being
pushed out of bounds in Warrior
territory.
But that drive would stall -
Darris Simmons breaks up a pass
intended for Marshae Hairston causing
the Bulldogs to punt.
Magna Vista finally gets going on
offense late in the first half as
Jonathan Williams hangs onto the ball
on an option play good for ten yards
and a first down.
*cg 867 The Warriors got the ball to the
five before big Eric Spencer cut and
dove into the the endzone for the
score. Magna Vista tops Martinsville
28 to 14.

BILLY MILES/Franklin County Head Coach:
Entering this season Terry was a three
year starter at defensive back. But
now he's finally getting the
opportunity to start as a tailback
after watching Ronnie Edwards gain
3,270 yards on the ground to go with 46
TD's the past two seasons . Edwards
is now at Lenoir-Rhyne, but before
leaving, he taught Terry plenty.

TRAVIS WELLS:
At 5-8, 175 pounds, Terry is proof that
good things come in small packages.
Described as a quiet type by his coach,
he prefers to stay in the background,
exhibiting what some would call the
perfect type of leadership.

ANTONIO:
Terry is also a star long jumper and
sprinter on Franklin County's track
team. In Rocky Mount, Travis Wells,
