welcome to Monday ticker.

We begin with some college
football news as the first Bowl
Championship Series rankings of the
season are out.

The BCS of course determines to a
large degree which two teams square off
in the national championship game at
the end of the season.

The Hokies check in at number
three in the first BCS poll behind USC
and Texas. There were some who thought
Tech might overtake Texas, but as you
can see Georgia almost bypassed the
Hokies.

Alabama is a strong number five,
but over a point and a half behind USC.

this Thursday night at Maryland, were
ahead of Georgia in both the new Harris
interactive poll and the USA Today top

in the computer rankings.

The ACC has four teams in the 25
member ranking.

Miami is 8 with Florida State 11
and Boston College 12.

West Virginia is 17, while Notre
Dame is 16.

The fighting Irish are
interesting in that while they are
ranked in the top 12, they are no
better than 21st in the six computer
rankings and they are not even among
the best 25 teams in the country in two
computer ratings.

Florida State Game Marques Hagans completed :00 27-of-36 passes for 306 yards and two
touchdowns in the Cavaliers' 26-to-21
win over then-No. 4 Florida State. The
senior from Hampton set career highs in
yardage, completions and attempts and
completed 75 percent of his passes for
the fifth time in his career. Hagans
also carried the ball five times and
helped Virginia average five yards per
play. He did a lot of this with a bad
hamstring and a lot of it while
scrambling and off-balance.

VO-NAT :26 Two astronauts on China's second

manned space flight landed today to a
hero's welcome.

Beijing called the five-day
mission a boost for the ruling
Communist Party.

The Shenzhou 6 capsule landed by
parachute in China's northern
grasslands.

State television showed the
astronauts climbing out of the
kettle-shaped capsule and smiling and
waving to the cheering ground crew.

The flight was meant to boost
Beijing's global stature and domestic
support for its communist rulers.
