Today, Roanoke Electric Steel announced
it will merge with Steel Dynamics of
Fort Wayne, Indiana -- pending approval
from stockholders.
Officials say the agreement is the best
outcome for long-term success.
The 240 MILLION dollar deal includes
Roanoke Electric Steel's two facilities
in Roanoke and West Virginia -- and all
of its subsidiaries.
Steel Dynamics is also expected to
invest between 50 and 80-million
dollars to improve the Roanoke plant.
Officials say a "few" senior managers
may lose their jobs as a result of the
merger.

Last night's event produced
several thousand dollars for the
Center, some nice plays like this from
Damon Wiliams, and most of all no
serious injuries - although several
gallons of Gatorade were consumed by
Grant and Travis alone.

(END SOT) has a new neighbor in newspapers
worldwideand it may be a lot easier to
play than say
NATS-su doku??// su doku?// su doku?
That would be pronounced "su
dough-koo"The Japanese words for single
and number You can spot the puzzle's
players from a mile away
SOT-I saw the little vein in his
forehead start popping out
Yes, it can get "that" intensejust ask
this father son duo who, since
discovering the game, who hold their
own mini SuDoku tournaments during
their morning commute.
SOT (Jeff Seigel/SuDoku Player) no one
really knows a closet sudoku
player and everyone's coming out
finally//7:52ishyou've gotta play it
to understand it.
STANDUP (Tracie Strahan/Reporting) The
number combos may seem
threatening but, you don't have to be a
member of Mensa to get in on the
crazesu doku puzzles traditionally
contain 9 three-by three grids.
Players are required to fill every row
and column using the numbers one
through 9 without repeatingno math or
formulas required.
That's Wayne Gouldthe New Zealand
native considered the father of
Modern SuDoku
SOT (Wayne Gould/Creator) not to be
immodest about it, but if it hadn't
been for me, we still wouldn't know
what sudoku was
After centuries in seclusion, the
game's re-birth came as he stumbled
upon a book of puzzles at a book store
in Japan.
Sot (Wayne Gould/Creator) I compared
the solutions in the back with the
puzzles in the front and sort of worked
out what you had to do
What may not be puzzling is the game's
sweeping popularityleading it to
be compared to another pop culture fad
that made us all scratch our
heads.
If you're interested in taking your
first SuDoku steps
SOTTry it once and it'll be a love
affair
one that may be forever written in
puzzle historyjust remember to use
pencil!
