File Tape Roanoke Electric Steel announced today
it will be merging with Steel Dynamics
of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Company officials say the agreement is
the best fit for the organization and
the best outcome for long-term success.

The 250-million dollar estimated deal
includes Roanoke Electric Steel's two
facilities in Roanoke and West Virginia
-- and all of its subsidiaries.

Steel Dynamics is also expected to
invest between 50 and 80-million
dollars on improvements to the Roanoke
plant.

Officials say a "few" senior managers
will lose their jobs as a result of the
merger.

The deal is still subject to
stockholder approval.
