Vander Maten is asking county

controversial cell phone plan in
Franklin County.

Mountain Lake.

Opponents said the equipment
would make an eyesore even uglier.

the corridor couldn't come soon enough.

Book three years ago.

It's an effort to eliminate
"pork" spending by merging similar
government functions.

It suggests departments like
Corrections could instantly save 34-
million dollars by reducing inventory
levels by 20- percent.

In total- the book points to two-
point- four BILLION dollars in savings.

Governor Warner's Communications
Director says the state has already
done many of the things the book
suggests.

It specifically points to
implementing suggestions made by the
Wilder Commission three years ago.

But Ellen Qualls says all but one
of those suggestions have already been
adopted.

In an effort to make the budget
more transparent, Governor Warner is
changing the format.


His final budget, released this
December, will include goals and
performance measures for every item.

worked in a ten-month undercover
investigation and yesterday a grand
jury handed up a list of charges and
indictments.
