the time of the murder, but police say
there is no indication they knew each
other. Police believe Planten was the
man neighbors saw peering into
Bennett's apartment several weeks
before the murder.
While Planten was wheeled into
court for his initial appearance,
authorities were searching his latest
address, and neighbors spoke of a man
they rarely saw and barely knew.

teenager in connection with last
night's shooting.

firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police were called to Indian
Village Lane in southeast Roanoke at
8:30 last night.
A 17-year-old had been shot and

names of either the suspect or the

for robbing the Advance America Cash
Advance in Salem.

28-year-old Thomas Leroy Hairston
was charged with two counts of robbery
and one count of petty larceny for
Wednesday's robbery.
Early accounts suggested the
robbery took place out front, but
investigators say Hairston actually
entered the business, displayed a
knife, and demanded money from the cash
drawers.
Police say Hairston also stole an
employee's purse.

it's like to play in the shadow of an
older brother who stars in the NFL. In
fact, on more than one occasion this
season, he's been mistaken for Michael.
MARCUS VICK/HOKIES QUARTERBACK:
Vick is not alone in the ACC. Maryland
tailback Keon Lattimore can relate.
The sophomore is the younger brother of
Ravens all pro linebacker Ray Lewis.
One of a trio of backs used by the
Terps Lattimore had his breakout game
this season at Wake Forest, rushing for
81 yards and a touchdown.
KEON LATTIMORE/TERPS TAILBACK:
Lattimore prepped for a year at
Hargrave Military where Big Brother Ray
attended his graduation in the spring
of 2004. While in Chatham, Lattimore
was teammates with several current
Hokies, including safety DJ Flowers,
cornerback Brandon Flowers, backup
quarterback Cory Holt, and wideout
Justin Harper.
