solved the murder of Stephanie Bennett.

VO-NAT She is the Franklin County native and
Roanoke College grad who was found
murdered in her Raleigh North Carolina
apartment over three years ago.
Yesterday afternoon, police arrested
35 year old Drew Edward Planten.
By phone last night, Stephanie's
father told us he was surprised but
relieved by the announcement.

point outside a Salem business.
Salem police say it happened
yesterday afternoon outside the Advance
America Cash Advance store at Lakeside
Plaza.
Investigators say the woman had
just received a cash advance when she
was accosted.
Witnesses saw the mugger run
towards some woods and called police.
Officers caught him after a
foot chase.
The suspect has been identified
as 28-year-old Thomas Hairston of
Roanoke.
Police say charges are pending.

after a shooting in Roanoke.

happened outside the Indian Village
apartment complex around 8:30 last
night.
One man was shot and taken to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
His name and condition have not
been released.
Police say no arrests have been

governor's office has become a hostile
one.
Last night Democrat Leslie Byrne
and Republican Bill Bolling met for the
second debate of the campaign.

The opening handshake was
friendly, but it didn't take long for
the attacks to start flying.
There were many issues the two
candidates fought over-- one of which
was transportation.
Bolling proposes using budget
surplus dollars to grow the
transportation trust fund, and

Byrne supports creating a rail
authority to help get trucks off
Interstates like 81, and would request
a special session of the legislature to
address the problem.

They actually like clean hair.
They do not jump or fly.
It requires direct contact to
catch them.
They are not passed by pets and
you can't just wash them out.
Roanoke County school nurses
recommend using the lice killer Nix to
treat them and regularly removing the
eggs from the hair.

weigh a little less this year.

later planting- and with a warm dry
summer- the average pumpkins this
season are a bit smaller than other
years.
But at Layman Orchards in
Daleville, Eric Layman says there are
still plenty of pumpkins to choose
from.
The pumpkins are big enough for
carving jack-o lanterns- about ten to
fifteen pounds.
The orchard also offer hayrides, a
corn maze for the kids and a country
store.

son were surprised by an intruder
insider their home early yesterday
morning.

Police say it happened around
three a.m. along the 100 block of
Pendleton Road. The mother's screams,
and her son's call to 9-1-1 were enough
to send the intruder running from the
home.

there's a big demand for urban style

Brothers Mark and Dave Thomas
came up with the idea, and they've kept
