Friday Football Extra

GRAPHIC=FFE Good evening one and all and

welcome to the latest edition of Friday
Football Extra.

Tonight marks week 9 of a quickly
evaporating regular season.

We entered tonight with a large
number of teams still unbeaten, but
several were put the test this evening.

GRAPHIC=SALEM/H/.VALLEY We begin with one of the

remaining undefeated clubs - Salem.

The state champion Spartans were
back home tonight hosting Hidden Valley
- a team that suffered its first
setback last week.

OQ= << It was homecoming in Salem as
(END SOT) Kelsey Ray Giordano was crowned this

year queen.

Salem did some crowning of its
own.

After scxoring on thier first
offensive play the Spartans' Keith
Gaines leads another scoring drive
gaining ten yards on the option play.

That would set up a one yard dive
by Cameron Chaney. The Spartans are
rolling up 14-to-nothing in the first.

Now in the second, the Spartans
gambled on a 4th and 13, but Hidden
valley's defense reponded by sacking
Gaines and giving the Titans' solid
field position.

Titan quartebrack Tyler Coyer
would capitalize as he threads the
needle and finds Brian Buch in the
endzone late in the second to make it a
14-to-7 game.

But Salem would answer back on
the very next drive. Gaines rolls
left, looks and finds his man Tony
Spradlin from 15 yards out. The killer
score just before half made it 20-to-7

Spartans.

In the third Hidden Valley would
gain some momentum and look to cash in
again. This tipped pass lands in
Bush's hands and he will do the rest on
his own scoring from 20 yards out, but
it's wiped out by a holding call on the
Titans. It's still 20-to-7.

Salem's defense would take it
from there and end any thoughts of a
comeback as Mark Hanabury picks off the
floater and Salem prevails with thet
27-to-14 win over the Titans.

Christiansburg vs. Pulaski Co. The Cave Spring band was standing :00 strong with the school's fight song to

shrugging off the "D" and he will take

Later in the first quarter, Cave
with possession at its own 40, Aiken
will look to pass, and instead pull it
down and take the keeper around the
right side for 18 big yards on the
carry.

On the next play - just inside
the 50, Aiken pitches the ball to Horan
who busts through the line and bounces
it to the outside. He finds some open
field and eventually the end zone as he
rolls 48 yards to make it 14-to-nothing
after a quarter.

The Blue Demons would try to get
their offense rolling with Andrew
Hoffer finding Nick Thompson over the
middle on the pitch and catch.

keep him injury free.

NORM LINEBURG

In fact when the Bobcats opened
practice back in August, the hard
working senior was treated like a piece
of fine china - with care.

BEN CHANDLER

NORM LINEBURG

His maturity - especially from a
physical standpoint - was never more

evident than during the Floyd game week
- then the Bobcats had to play two
games in five days due to rain. Ben
led them to two wins first over Parry
McCluer then the Buffs.

In five days he had 346 yards,
three touchdowns - and no injuries.
