identify a man they say was involved in
a shooting early this morning on Grey
Street.
A 25 year old female was shot in
the leg. She is being treated at
Danville Regional Medical Center. Her
name is not being released.

this morning.

When they got there, the flames

woman found dead after a fire Thursday,
but they still aren't sure how she
died.

was found dead at V-and-J Construction
Company after a small fire damaged a
bathroom inside the business.
Authorities have not determined
her cause of death, but say she had no

Test results should show whether
Estep died from inhaling toxic fumes
from the blaze.

Folklife Festival brings thousands to
the campus of Ferrum College to
celebrate regional traditions.
Today, the old-time crafts will
include the handiwork of Woodlawn
blacksmith Billy Phelps, who may just
be the best in the state.
Joe Dashiell has his story.

His great uncle was a blacksmith
who learned from his grandfather.
Phelps began shoeing horses after high
school.
Today, he devotes his time to
ornamental ironwork.

Institute says there are many
blacksmiths beating metal, but Roddy
Moore says Phelps' whimsical subjects
and his artistic touch are special.
Moore counts him among the best
blacksmiths in the state.

YEARS AGO WITH THE SAME TOOLS AND
EQUIPMENT. YOU TAKE AWAY THE
ELECTRICITY AND IT'S THE SAME SHOP. BUT
THE SKILL IS CERTAINLY THERE.

OQ= If the metal is often reluctant
and stubborn, Phelps says "you have to
grit your teeth and get at it."
But he also sees the work as a
connection with his past and with the
country's roots, a craft he says that
must be kept alive.
