for two men accused of trying to kidnap
a woman.
The woman told police that two
men in a black S-U-V pulled up beside
her while driving, and told her there
was something wrong with her car.
When she pulled over, the two men
pulled her out of her car, and forced
her into the back seat.
Police say they released her
after driving a short distance. She was
not injured.

man with murder nearly a month after a
store clerk was shot to death in
Roanoke.

Jacobs killed a clerk at Amelio's
Market on October 4th.

October 4 as he was known to friends and
customers, was found dead inside the
Southeast Roanoke store.
A police spokeswoman said a
motive is still under investigation.
Jacobs was arrested in
Montgomery County and brought to

Most are for minor offenses like
failure to appear in court.

Hill grew up in Roanoke and after
receiving his law degree -- worked
tirelessly on behalf of the civil
rights movement in Virginia.
When Hill was a young attorney

Hill's voice is weakened by a
recent illness so his son read a
statement on his behalf.

Yesterday, the New River
Highlands Resource Conservation and
Development Council picked up a
200-thousand dollar check.
The organization will use the
money to encourage local planners to
provide safer woodland subdivisions and
host field days at demonstration sites.
It will also pay for fuel
reduction measures like cutting brush.
Last year a similar grant
helped more than fifty homeowners
create defensible space and reduce
forest fuels around their houses.
