GRAPHIC=HOLD Roanoke County police are looking

for a hit and run suspect.

Authorities say a juvenile was
dropped off at a school bus stop at the
corner of Colonial Avenue and Vest
Drive yesterday afternoon, when he was
struck from behind.

He suffered minor injuries and
required medical attention.

The suspect's vehicle is
described as a 1990's model, dark or
Forest green Jeep Cherokee.

It was last seen traveling
southbound on Colonial Avenue headed
towards Brambleton Avenue.

GRAPHIC=Fire A furnace is to blame for a fire

at a Days Inn in Roanoke County.

Crews arrived at the hotel on
Plantation Road yesterday evening after
receiving a call that the first and
second floors were filling with smoke.

Crews found the fire in the
furnace room.

Officials say the smoke traveled
through the duct work and into the
first two floors.

No one was injured.

A home in Pittsylvania County
was destroyed last night.

Firefighters say the call came
in around six o-clock as an explosion

at 1469 East Witt Road in the Blairs
area.

Crews arrived to find the home
destroyed and the remnants on fire.

No one was there at the time.

The cause is still under
investigation.

school board's input on Victory Stadium
at a meeting scheduled for this
afternoon.

A vote on the future of Victory
Stadium is expected Monday.

The city's consultant has
indicated that renovating Victory
Stadium is the least expensive of five
options the firm considered.

But with recent calls for
stadiums at each of the high schools,
some members of council say they want

to meet with the school board before
making a decision.

motorcycle accident that sent two
people to the hospital.

It happened around 11yesterday
morning on this stretch of Route 122
north of Bedford.

State police say the motorcyle was
headed south when he approached a work
crew on the road near the Millstone Tea
Room.

The biker braked suddenly and
swerved into a flag man standing near
the roadway.


Both men were flown to Lynchburg
General Hospital with what police say
were non-life threatening injuries.

The names of those involved have
not been released.

Kilgore wasn't working for tips.

The Republican left customers
with a card explaining how much more
their gas would be if Tim Kaine had his
way.

That despite the fact Kaine has
said he'll oppose any increase in the
gas tax until the state's
transportation trust fund is under lock
and key.

But former governor Doug Wilder
says Virginians can trust Tim Kaine to
be a good leader.

The Democrat endorsed Kaine in front of
Richmond's skyline citing Kaine's
concern for Virginia's bread and butter
issues.

Both men are working to encourage
a strong voter turnout.

Kaine plans a final swing through
southwest Virginia this weekend.


While Kilgore plans to spend four
of the next six days in Northern
Virginia.

Board of Supervisors Mike Altizer says
now is the time to develop the Roanoke
Valley as a tourist destination.

And the redesign of Virginia's
Explore Park, and other projects, could
provide the catalyst to make that
happen.

Altizer delivered his state of
the county address to members of the
Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce
yesterday morning.

He said he believes Explore Park
could be an anchor for Roanoke Valley

Vinton joined Altizer on stage as he
concluded his speech. The four have
agreed to meet to discuss Altizer's
proposal.

GRAPHIC=HOLD Danville police are looking

for four suspects in an attempted
robbery and assault at Averett
University's Alumni House last night.

Authorities say it happened around
7- 30.

A suspect displayed a handgun to an
employee, and demanded money.

When the victim refused, the four
suspects struck him several times in
the head before fleeing on foot.

Police say the victim was treated
for non- life threatening injuries.

They say the suspects are black
males, between 16 and 20 years old.

All were wearing bandanas over their
faces.

federal drought disaster designations
for an additional 16 counties,

talking about selling the store because
it was becoming too dangerous.

There is help for business owners
who fear for their safety.

The Roanoke police department will
hold its annual seminar on robbery
prevention November 17th.

The man accused in Kawa's death
could face other and more severe
charges.

Yesterday morning, 43-year-old
Gary E. Pritchard, Jr. was arraigned
before a judge.

Pritchard appeared sedated and
even asleep at times.

The Judge appointed Tony Anderson
to represent him.

That could be a sign to things to
come- Anderson has handled more than a
dozen capital murder cases in his
23-year career.

Roanoke Commonwealth's Attorney
Don Caldwell says more charges are
pending and the possibility of a
capital charge is NOT off the table.
