Mayor Nelson Harris took a lot of
heat for his vote, because until
recently, he was against school
stadiums.

But Harris says he made his feelings

a shooting.

Authorities were called to Lamar
Street around 11 last night.

When they arrived, they found a
woman with gun shots to the upper right
arm and right leg.

She was taken to Danville
Regional Medical Center and is being
treated for non-life threating
injuries.

An unoccupied vehicle was also
hit by gunfire on Lamar Street.

drowned after falling into a neighbor's
fountain in Pittsylvania County.

home on Railroad Lane off Route 29.

That's where a small child had
been floating in a small yard pond in
about a foot of water.

The child apparently had left his
grandmother's home and wandered into a
neighbor's yard.

Emergency crews administered C-P-R

and got the child breathing again ...
he was later flown to the U-V-A Medical
Center.

No others details have been
released.

charged with killing his grandmother
could be tried as an adult.

The teen had his first court
appearance yesterday where the judge
ordered him to remain in custody.

The teenager has lived with his
grandmother and step grandfather since
he was six months old- and had been
legally adopted by them.

He's accused of stabbing 61 year old
Betty Jamison to death after an
argument Saturday afternoon at the
family home on Poages Mill Road.

Jamison was known to most as Jean
Jamison, She was described as a lovely,
sweet woman, a member of the Poages
Mill Brethern Church- who was retired
from the railroad.

used because of his age- is charged
with first degree murder-

He was appointed an attorney- and
is due back in court next week.

Roanoke County School officials
told News 7 yesterday it was business
as usual at Cave Spring High, but
students there say four Roanoke County
police officers were at the school
yesterday.

School officials also sent a
letter home to parents regarding the

murder saying they implemented their
crisis plan after rumors spread
regarding school safety.

The letter says the rumors were
unfounded and assured parents that

a shooting.

Authorities were called to Lamar
Street around 11 last night.

When they arrived, they found a

woman with gun shots to the upper right
arm and right leg.

A 20-month-old child apparently
wandered away from his grandmother's

The boy was revived through C-P-R
then flown to the U-V-A Medical Center.

His condition and name have not
been released.
