in Staffordsville, Timothy Wayne
Simpkins was seen by three folks
leaving the woods by the post office.

home Wednesday afternoon.

Police arrested 36-year
old Joel F. Carter of Vinton this
morning.

Investigators say Carter
offered a ride to a woman walking on
Pollard Street in Vinton around two

The 21-year old victim was

embezzling more than 260-thousand
dollars from a Roanoke restaurant
chain.


33-year-old Donna Marie Phillips
was indicted on a federal wire fraud
charge.

Investigators say Phillips used
her position as a bookkeeper with
Famous Anthony's Restaurants to
embezzle the money from 2000 to 2005.

If convicted, Philips could
face 20 years in prison or a
250-thousand dollar fine.

to the controversial Keagy Village
Project?

scheduled to be built next to Allstate
Insurance at the corner of Route 419
and Keagy Road.

Many nearby residents bitterly fought
the project because the property was
zoned residential, not commercial.

But in June 2004, the Roanoke County
Board of Supervisors voted four to one
in favor of rezoning the property,

clearing the way for the project.

this weekend in Blacksburg has died.

18-year-old Brian Joseph
McCloskey died today at Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.

seriously injured in an accident in
Danville this afternoon.

Police say an unoccupied panel
truck rolled onto South Boston Road and
hit a car.

Part of the van hit 2-year-old
Dawson Rowland in the head.

He was flown to the U-V-A Medical
Center this evening, but there's no
word on his condition.

The boy's mother, who was
driving the car, was not hurt.

Police charged 26-year old
Jonathon Moore with failing to secure a
vehicle.

a logger pinned under a piece of heavy
equipment in Franklin County today.

out of the woods on a six-wheel A-T-V.

That was only after his
co-worker, Richard Arthur, managed to
dig him out of the dirt with his knife.

Hodges had been operating a

the school board voted to move the
schools to one centralized location
beginning next fall.
