GRAPHIC=Shooting The search for a man who shot two


people during an apparent domestic
dispute resumes this morning in Giles
County.

It happened yesterday just after noon
at this house on Route 100 in the
Staffordsville section of the county.

A man and a woman were shot, both
suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The shooter, who was wearing
camoflauge, was then spotted running
into the woods.

That prompted a massive search that
included the State Police tactical unit
and a helicopter.

The search has so far turned up
nothing.

Sheriff's Deputies are looking for a
person of interest in this case. He
has been identified as 33 year old

Timothy Wayne Simpkins.

Tennessee who they say should be
considered dangerous.

escaped from a work detail in
Kingsport, Tennessee yesterday morning.

Police say he then raped a
woman at knifepoint.

father owns a cabin in Bland County.

State Police searched that
area last night and found nothing.

Troopers say Bird should be
considered dangerous.

GRAPHIC=none A pit bull was shot yesterday


afternoon by Danville Police.

Police were called to the 800
block of Shepard Avenue with reference
to a wanted person.

An officer knocked on the front
door but when receiving no answer went
around the side of the house.

The officer heard some dogs
barking and then found a pack of dogs.


The pit bull broke away from a
pack of dogs and charged towards the
officer.

Realizing an attack was imminent,
the officer drew his weapon and fired
two shots which killed the animal.

Police say the dog belonged to a
man a few houses away from where the
incident occurred.

claimed victory in the Attorney
General's race, but Democrat Creigh
Deeds isn't throwing in the towel just
yet.

Election officials are in the
process of counting provisional
ballots.

Creigh Deeds says any way you
look at it there's going to be a
recount.

The Democrat was out- spent by
his opponent and lagged behind in the
polls for much of the campaign, but
closed the gap in the days leading up
to the election.

After the votes are certified
both candidates have ten days to
petition for a recount.

Yesterday, the board of elections
of Alleghany County certified the votes
from all of the county's precincts.

Election officials say this year
there were more write-candidates than
usual.

votes, while challenger and write-in
candidate Jim Ballou got 264 votes.

starting Monday.

However, the Better Business
Bureau wants to warn seniors that
scammers might use this opportunity to
sell them non-existent plans or
convince them to sign up for an option
that doesn't meet their needs.

door-to-door offers. Federal law
prohibits that.

Providers are only allowed to
solicit over the phone or through the
mail.

Another red flag is people who

claim they are with Medicare. They
should say they are an independent
agent selling a Medicare plan.

High-pressure tactics are another
trick scam artists use to convince
seniors to make rush decisions.
