It happened yesterday just after noon
at this house on Route 100 in the
Staffordsville section of the county.

A man and a woman were shot, both
suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The shooter, who was wearing
camoflauge, was then spotted running
into the woods.

That prompted a massive search that
included the State Police tactical unit
and a helicopter.

The search has so far turned up
nothing.

Sheriff's Deputies are looking for a
person of interest in this case. He
has been identified as 33 year old
Timothy Wayne Simpkins.

GRAPHIC=none A pit bull was shot yesterday

afternoon by Danville Police.

Police were called to the 800
block of Shephard Avenue in reference
to a wanted person.

An officer knocked on the front
door, but when receiving no answer,
went around the side of the house.

The officer heard some dogs
barking and then noticed a pack of
dogs.

A pit bull broke away from the
pack and charged towards the officer.

Realizing an attack was imminent,
the officer drew his weapon and fired
two shots which killed the animal.

Police say the dog belonged to a
man a few houses away from where the
incident occurred.

Monday Tim Kaine's father-in-law
was scheduled to have surgery for
bladder cancer yesterday.

Linwood Holton was
Virginia's first Republican governor
since Reconstruction, serving from 1970
to 1974.

Holton appeared pale and
tired in campaign appearances with
Kaine and excused himself before Kaine
spoke at Tuesday night's victory party.

Yesterday morning, Kaine said
he was unsure of his father-in-law's
prognosis, but remained hopeful.
