claimed the life of a Danville police
officer.

TAKE APRISA FULL Around 11 last night, Officer
Courtney Dickerson was responding to a
call when his cruiser flipped on

Halifax Road near the Pleasant View
Baptist Church.

Dickerson was ejected from the
vehicle.

He was taken to Danville Regional
Medical Center where he was pronounced
dead just after midnight.

He was 24 years old.

today, the result of what police there
call a "threat scenario".

School administrators decided to
keep students out of O.T. Bonner Middle
School, for reasons they will describe
only as "unforeseen circumstances."

Police were called to the building

this morning and conducted a thorough
search inside, but officers found
nothing suspicious.

Neither police nor school officials
will say exactly what the "threat
scenario" or "unforeseen circumstances"
are.

apartment building is leaving some
residents homeless.

VO-NAT Debra Brooks heard a smoke alarm

next door to her Clarke Street
apartment.

She helped her son and a neighbor
break down the door, but quickly
realized the flames were too big to be
put out with fire extinguishers.

Firefighters had to use a ladder
truck to save one person from the
building's roof.

No one was injured in the heavy
flames, but early estimates put the
damage at seventy- five thousand
dollars.

surprise---however Condoleeza Rices

message was anything but.

The Secretary of State recited the
White House company line.

Most Sunnis oppose the recently passed
national constitution and fear

they will be a powerless minority in
the new Iraqi government.

Rice disagreed and continued her
message of unity and support.

Rice's visit follows one of the
bloodiest days in Iraq in months which

included several bombings.

In one of those, 35 people were killed
when a suicide bomber blew

himself up in a Baghdad restaurant
where police often eat.

With insurgency still going strong ,
Rice helped launch new joint

civilian and military rapid response
teams. They are designed to move

into towns once insurgents have been
cleared out.

If successful...the program could be a
step towards bringing U-S troops

home....a possible ray of hope on this
Veterans's Day for thousands of

American soldiers in Iraq.

As the train begins to move, the
woman struggled to get the stroller
out, but it was stuck.

With some help, the woman gets the
baby out of the stroller-- but then her
jacket gets caught in the doors.

She was dragged for several feet
before the train stopped.

The infant wasn't injured-- the mom
suffered only minor injuries.

want to know what has become ofthe
controversial Keagy Village Project.

scheduled to be built next to Allstate
Insurance at the corner of Route 419
and Keagy Road.

Many nearby residents bitterly fought
the project because the property was
zoned residential, not commercial.

But in June 2004, the Roanoke County

in favor of rezoning the property,
clearing the way for the project.

chain.

33-year-old Donna Marie Phillips
was indicted on a federal wire fraud
charge.

Investigators say Phillips used
her position as a bookkeeper with

embezzle the money from 2000 to 2005.

If convicted, Philips could
face 20 years in prison or a
250-thousand dollar fine.

Four Northern Virginia branches of
Wachovia bank have been hit

in recent weeks, including one last
Friday.

In three of the holdups, the woman
kept talking on her phone while handing
the teller a note demanding money.

Investigators say they would love to
know who's on the other end of the
call.

to field only four cars under a cap
limit set by NASCAR.

It's a move that infuriated the
five-car Roush Racing organization,
which has until 2009 to comply.

The limit goes into effect next
season.

Jack Roush is the only owner with
five teams.
