of Defense released this reel showing
soldiers before the Normandy invasion.

It was after World War II that
name of the national holiday was
changed from Armistice Day to Veterans

hour of the 11th day of the 11th month
to honor those who had fallen.

The new six-foot marble memorial
bears the names of Franklin County men
and women who died while serving.

Recent veterans were also
honored.

One former solider spoke about
his recent experience with the Iraqi
elections.

soldiers went unnoticed for years --but
this past Veterans day the two men are
finally getting recognition.

The caretaker at Laurel Hill
Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska
accidentally discovered 58 lost graves.


Volunteers went on to identify
two of them as Civil war soldiers who
fought for the union in the colored
infantry.

Now the investigation into the
death of a Virginia Tech student is
focused on homicide.

at about 2-am last Saturday near the
Pheasant Run Crossing Townhomes- about
a mile from campus.

McCloskey was unconscious on a
paved bike trail with severe injuries
to the head and upper body.

new six-foot marble memorial in Rocky

County men and women who died while
serving their country.

died Friday at Roanoke Memorial

The freshman from Maryland was found
at about 2-am last Saturday near the
Pheasant Run Crossing Townhomes- about
a mile from campus.

McCloskey was unconscious on a
paved bike trail with severe injuries
to the head and upper body.


Friends who grew up with McCloskey
in Maryland want answers.

GRAPHIC=Police Chase A 20-year-old Galax man is in

the hospital after a high-speed police
chase that ended in a crash early
Friday morning.

It started in Galax around
midnight, when a city police officer
tried to stop Mark Anthony Cardwell.

Officers say Cardwell took

off, headed south on Route 89, and
eventually crashed on Edmunds Road in
Grayson County.

He's in good condition at
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Police say he'll face a
number of charges after he's released,
including driving under the influence
and marijuana possession.

The Galax police chief says
officer John Reavis followed department
policies during the pursuit.
