EVERYDAY MILLIONS OF PARENTS CHOOSE TO

KAREN OLSON PRESENTED THE STUDY AT A
MEETING OF THE AMERICAN HEART
ASSOCIATION.

HER GROUP LOOKED AT HUNDREDS OF KIDS
RANGING FROM THE SECOND TO THE 11TH
GRADE.

(GFX)

RESEARCHERS FOUND THAT CHILDREN WHO ATE
OUT THE MOST HAD:

HIGHER BLOOD PRESSURE.

LOWER LEVELS OF GOOD CHOLESTEROL.

AND THEY HAD A LOWER SENSITIVITY TO
INSULIN.... WHICH COULD BE AN EARLY
WARNING SIGN OF DIABETES. :18

(STANDUP: DR. DAVID MARKS/CBS NEWS/NEW
YORK, NY)

THE REASON IS PRETTY SIMPLE.

FOR THE MOST PART RESTAURANT FOOD ISN'T
AS HEALTHY AS HOME COOKED MEALS.

KIDS WHO EAT OUT FREQUENTLY CONSUME
MORE STARCH, SUGAR, SODIUM, FAT AND
CHOLESTEROL. :10

(NATS)

AND RESEARCHERS BELIEVE THESE SAME KIDS
CONTINUE TO EAT POORLY EVEN WHEN THEY
ARE AT HOME.

SO IT'S NOT SO MUCH CHANGING 'WHERE'
KIDS EAT..... BUT 'WHAT' THEY EAT.

THE KEY IS TEACHING CHILDREN HOW TO EAT
HEALTHIER.... EVEN WHEN IT'S AT A
RESTAURANT.

(SOT- KAREN OLSON, RN/DIR., CARE

"PARENTS WE HAVE TO SET THE EXAMPLE BY
