OQ=gonna be a fun game." < (END SOT) Darryl Tapp, linebacker James Anderson,

and three Hokie teammates, spent a week
in Fort Collins, Colorado, learning
leadership skills at the Ultimate
Training Camp presented by Athletes in
Action. It was an experience that
helped both players put things in
proper perspective.

DARRYL TAPP/HOKIES DEFENSIVE END:

This year's camp was the third such
event that Anderson had attended. In
the summer of 2004, he spent a week in
Los Angeles along with former Tech
quarterback Bryan Randall working with
inner city kids.

JAMES ANDERSON/HOKIES LINEBACKER:

Anderson is one of 13 finalists
for the Weurffel Award or Humanitarian
Heisman, given for academic success and
community service.

Likewise, UVA kicker Connor Hughes
is a semifinalist for the Draddy Award
or Academic Heisman, which honors some
of the same attributes. The two role
models served together this past summer
in Colorado.

CONNOR HUGHES/CAVALIERS PLACE KICKER:

Hughes is one of 13 Cavalier
seniors to play their final home game
on Saturday. And he's not looking
forward to doing it against his new
friends.

In other ACC news, just a couple
of days after Georgia Tech football
coach Chan Gailey signed a five year
contract extension, the NCAA hit the
Yellow Jackets with two year's

probation for using 17 academically
ineligible players in 4 sports
including 11 football. That means
scholarship reductions for football and
track. This is the first time that the
school has been placed on probation.

The $215.00 "Brinco" shoes are
intended to help people attempting to
cross the border from Mexico into the
U.S.

"Brinco" is Spanish for "jump."

The high top sneakers come with a
compass, flashlight and a pocket for
money or pain relievers.

A rough map of the border is
printed on the insole.

The shoes are red, white and
green - the colors of the Mexican flag
- and there's a picture of the patron
saint of migrants on the back ankle.

Designer Judi Werthein is an
Argentine artist who moved - legally --
to the U.S. in 1997.

She says she's making a statement
about people's feelings about
immigration.
