GRAPHIC=FFE Good evening one and all and

welcome to a downright nasty cold
edition of Friday Football Extra.

After anything but a regular
season, the playoffs began tonight with
regional semi-final action from one of
the state to the other. In the next
half and hour or so, we will bring you
the highlights of 14 games as we
stretch out from Manassas to Rural
Retreat to Naruna.

Throw an extra log on the fire
and settle in for this regional
semi-final edition of Friday Football
Extra.
GRAPHIC=FRANKLIN/OSBOURN

We begin tonight with the area's
only Division Six playoff participant -
Franklin County.

The Eagles set their schedule up
this year hoping to get enough points
to avoid a first round playoff game in
the geographically challenged Northwest
Region. They got close, but once again
had to hit the road today and travel to
Manassas to take on Osbourn High.

ENG#=1 VO-NAT

*CG ffeloc Manassas
Franklin Co. vs. Osbourn As always a great group of loyal :00 fans traveled up from Rocky Mount
making the 238 mile long trek.

Osbourn's Brandon Hogan proved to
be handful in this one as he takes a
Franklin County fumble and a few plays
later take it to the house for the
opening score of the game 7-to-nothing
in favor of Osbourn.

But there were plenty of point to
be had in this one as D.J. Willis hands
off to Antonio Terry who carries the
mail in from the five and we're all
tied up at 7 a piece in the first.

The track meet would continue as
Osbourn opens things up with the pass
- this time it's Hogan again with the
skills as his pass drops in the
receiver's hands, he regains his
balance and manages to score to make it
a 14-to-7 game.

Hogan would try to go to the well
again on the same play - but this time
the Eagles' Hunter Naff is right on
time - as he makes the interception and
then takes the ball back for the
touchdown. Naff's return will tie it

back up at 14-all.

But Hogan was just too much for
the Eagles to overcome as he just blows
by everyone to the house.
*CG 850 FINAL

Osbourn led 36-to-35 at halftime,
and Franklin County loses a wild
shootout 58-to-41 in Manassas.

Brooke Point vs. E.C. Glass We pick it up in the third :00 quarter with the score 14-to-7 Glass on
top.

Glass quarterback Justin Devaul

hands off to Marty Hubbard and he will
take it right past the Brooke Point

on a touchdown saving tackle.

A couple of plays later, Trent
Sparks comes on and hits a 24 yard
field goal that turned out to be the
game winner as Glass takes a 17-to-7
lead on the visitors.

Brooke Point would make it
interesting as Matthew Cavalier tries
to find Tony Green, but instead Tee
Anderson jumps in front for the pick.
He tips it a couple of times, but gets
control - only to be hit - and he will
fumble putting the ball back in Brooke
Point's hands. *CG 852 FINAL

In the fourth, Cavalier hands off
to Chase Barnett who score from the one
to cut the lead to 17-to-14.

But that was it Glass wins and

14-to-7 to start the third, Gretna's
Theo Miller ignites another Hawks'
comeback with this nice carry down to
the three yard line.

Three plays later, Gretna bangs

Gretna would then put Tee-on
Bennett in the game and he will have
all day to throw and find Maurice Hall
in the back of the endzone. The Hawks
are now on top 21-to-13 midway through
the third.

But Chatham would outscore Gretna

himself into the secondary rolling 53
yards on the first touchdown run of the
night. It's 7-to-nothing home team.

After a Liberty fumble,
Christiansburg would have a chance to
get back in it as Andrew Hoffer bangs
in from the two on the sneak and we're
all tied up at 7 all in the first.

In the second, Liberty would be
faced with a 4th and 8 and the
Minutemen get 12 yards as Poindexter
connects with Quinton Blake.

Full back Mike Riner would then
cap that drive with a blast right up
the gut. The 19 yard dash puts Liberty

Liberty again finds the endzone -
this time with Poindexter getting in

Rural Retreat would come back
with a nice drive as Matthew Heldreth
uses his arm to set up the first score

walk in from the three. We're tied at

Glenvar vs. George Wythe The Maroons were all huddled up
trying to stay warm on a night when the
competition was intense.

We pick it up in the fourth when
Glenvar trailing 14-to-7 with the ball.
Jacob Giardina will pass over the
middle to Shawn Crawford who makes the
catch and then takes off rolling into
the endzone of the pitch and catch.
Glenvar ties it up at 14-all.

Now with less than 10 seconds to
go in regulation - George Wythe's
Derrick Davis will scramble, finds some
space and a make the pass - only to
have it picked off by Glenvar's Brandon
Anderson to end regulation.

Now in overtime, Glenvar was
forced to kick a field goal. It's good
and the Highlanders are on top
17-to-14.
*CG 859 FINAL George Wythe would get it back
and Davis will hand off to Trey Smith -
who bulldozes his way into the endzone
for the winning TD.

The Knights beat the Titans 20 to 14
thanks in large part to tailback Will
Osborne, to clinch a home game in the
playoffs and knock Hidden Valley out of
the post-season.

(OSBOURNE SOT:)

Osborne shouldered most of the
load because the Knights lost one of
their Key Runner's Kenny Horan early to
an injury

(FULTON BITE:1:59:30)

The Senior scored a touchdown on
the ground along with over a hundred
yards for the game. And he did it all
with a very basic philosphy

Osborne also caught 2 passes for
scores including the eventual game

bit unusual.
