SOT-It's the beginning of general fire
arms season where you can use most any
gun of a large enough caliber to go
deer hunting.
VO-And some checkpoints were crowded
with excited hunters.
tc@06:10:48-:53
SOT-When you kill a nice one you want
to bring it in and show it off a little
bit. (he chuckles) I guess it's vanity.

Me-tc-06:23:51-:24:01----06:24:24-:35---
-06:25:47-:57
Traditionally, after a hunter
bags a deer, they'll bring it to a
checkpoint. But, that's changing. Now a
new rule allows a hunter to tag a deer
himself by using their cell phone.
tc@06:27:23-:28
SOT- tc@ 06:28:36-:45------------
Shirley Niday/ Old Mill Country Store
Well naturally if they just call
in they're going to just call it in and
go home. It's certainly not tradition
they've never been able to call them in
before------ it's going to kill the
business.
VO-Business is slowing at hunting
checkpoints across Southwest Virginia.
And while this new rule is only in it's
second year, store owners like Ellen
Horn are already seeing it's effects.
SOT-tc@08:43:47-:54-Ellen Horn/
Hunter's Den
Excitement of the hunt, everyone
meeting here comparing the deer,
camaraderie with the hunter's is gone.
VO-Checkpoints have traditionally
served as meeting places for hunter's.
And while some are taking advantage of
the call-in system, others do it the
old fashion way.
SOT-tc@ 06:37:58-06:38:02----- Matt
Ulma/ Hunting Enthusiast-
06:38:24-:33
I don't like it because you have
to sit on the phone for twenty
minutes....we've been doing it for
countless years, I don't know how many
years people have been coming down here
checking deer. I just don't like the
phone calling business.
VO-And neither do store owners like
Shirley and Ellen who hope hunters
stick to tradition.

Springfield vs. Roanoke As always the V-Foundation had
:00 plenty of sports memorabilia to be
auctioned off to benefit cancer
research.
We pick it up midway thru the
first half. Ben Schrader takes the
rock and drains a three ball from the
top of the key. He scored 18 on the
night and the Maroons led by 10.
In the second half, Springfield
goes outside to get back in the game.
Damian Farley tickles the twine for 3.
But Roanoke held on down the
stretch.
*CG final Springfield On the break, Schrader hits A-J Dowell
69 who made his Roanoke debut in style
Roanoke with the lay-in. The Maroons won it
71 by 2, 71-69.
