now wants the top job.
Last week, Steve Angle announced
he will be running for Mayor in 2006.
Angle is a case manager for
Franklin County high school -- and has
served on council for the past
15-years.
The town's current mayor, Mark

he'll run again during the next council
meeting.

stoves, fireplaces, and chimneys
cleaned and inspected before use.
Residents should also only burn
dry, well seasoned wood.
He says if you buy a space
heater, be sure it carries the mark of
an independent testing lab.
And allow fireplace and wood
stove ashes to cool fully, before
disposing of them into a metal
container.

years.
And yesterday was no exception,
as a group of women from Bedford County
raised money to get some much needed
fire equipment.

Belles", cul-minated a year's worth of
craft-making -- with their annual
holiday bazaar at the Saunders
Volunteer Fire House.
Organizers say volunteer
firehouses are always in need of extra

rounds by train.

And country music star Naomi Judd
came along for the ride.
The Santa Train made its annual
ride this weekend, delivering Christmas
gifts to thousands of families in
Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee.
The train delivered more than 15
tons of gifts along a 110-mile route
from Shelby to Kingsport.
Judd says she is proud of her
Kentucky heritage and enjoyed sharing
the Christmas spirit with communities
in the region.

fraternity house fire, a student from
Martinsville is being honored with a
memorial scholarship.

sophomore at the University of
Mississippi, when he died in the *Alpha
Tau Omega* fire last August.

August 27 Members of a student organization
have established the "Howard Stone
Academic Achievement Scholarship" to
recognize Stone's excellence in the
classroom and to inspire others to
follow his lead.
Stone's parents also donated

dangerous city according to the annual
City Crime Rankings reference book.
The city comes in just behind
Camden, New Jersey; Detroit; Saint
Louis; and Flint, Michigan.
The rankings are based on rates
for murder, rape, robbery, aggravated
assault, burglary and motor vehicle
theft.
The report says the safest city
is Newton, Massachusetts.
