Bird flu is just one recent example.

And then there are diseases like West
Nile Virus that are spread through the
bite of infected mosquito.
It can even happen at a petting zoo.
There have been several e-coli
outbreaks affecting children in recent
years.
They are called zoonotic diseases, and
they're occurring more frequently.
The most feared right now is the bird
flu, which has already killed more than
half the people who got it.

So how can we keep ourselves from
getting diseases from animals.
There are no foolproof methods, but Dr.

raw meats thoroughly - and practice
personal hygiene and hand washing, tips
that would apply if the bird flu ever
hit.
DOUBLE BOXES=Jean & JOy/BAM DOUBLE BOXES
Jean, a bird flu vaccine is in being

better than high school football.
Tonight Rural Retreat is mourning
the loss of man who lived by those

File Tape Walter Wynn, known to the town as
Chubbie (CHUB eye), was the Indians'
biggest fan.
He went to every single home
game... even every practice.
Chubbie often rode with the team
bus to away games.
He was diagnosed with colon
cancer a few weeks ago and lost his
battle Sunday.
There will be a memorial service
tonight at seven at the Rural Retreat
High School Gymnasium.
Chubbie was 77.

VO-NAT Are deer really a problem within the
city of Roanoke?
Some wildlife experts suggest the
answer is no.
So why then is the city spending
thousands of dollars to bait and kill
deer?
We'll have some answers tonight at
eleven.
