investigating a murder.
Police responded to a shooting at
10-19 West Stokes Street around one o
clock this morning.
When officers arrived, they found
a male victim.
His body was sent to the Roanoke
Medical Examiner's office for an
autopsy.

Bedford County firefighters busy for
more than four hours.

evening just as the first firefighters
arrived at the site on Centerville
Road.
Crews say gusty winds made the
fire difficult to get under control.
Investigators are looking
closely at an electrical box and a
woodstove as possible causes.
The business was not insured,
and losses are estimated at 25-thousand
dollars.

duty in southwestern Louisiana,
Firefighters from western Virginia have
returned home.

The volunteers from Smith
Mountain Lake Marine Fire and Rescue
returned to the Roanoke Regional
Airport yesterday afternoon.
Their mission took them to
Cameron Parish, Louisiana, a community
of 10-thousand that was devastated by
Hurricane Rita in late September.

people after an rowdy party in downtown
Bedford.

Officers were called to 726
Longwood Avenue around 2 a-m yesterday
morning after neighbors complained
about noise and disorderly people in
the neighborhood.
When the people inside the house
refused to let officers in, police got
a search warrant.
They charged 10 people with
underage possession of alcohol and
another with contributing to the
delinquency of a minor.
Two others were charged with
destruction of property.

while turkeys have salmonella, the
bacteria is killed when cooked at the
right temperature.
But Sumner says its the stuffing
you cook in the turkey you should be
worried about.

Thanksgiving's need for attention

Ballou says one of the horses
accidentally stepped on the bird and
broke her toe.
And while an injured turkey would
have meant dinner for some people,
Ballou says Thanksgiving will never be

for their taxes yesterday.

They were presented to Governor
Mark Warner by Chiefs of the Pamunkey
(Puh- Monkey) and Mattaponi
(Matta-po-ni') Indian tribes.
It's a tradition born out of a
treaty signed in 1646.
Governor Warner was also
presented with a turtle- plate-
representing long- life and peace.

morning, the Lynchburg 9-1-1 center
got a call that there was a bomb inside
the Department of Motor Vehicles
building on Oddfellows Road.
The building was evacuated and
searched but nothing suspicious turned
up.

about a half hour later.

additional aid to the gulf coast.

Yesterday morning, the city of
Roanoke shipped off six surplus cars
and vans to Gulfport, Mississippi.
The vehicles were taken to a
terminal in Salem where they were to be
picked up for the journey south.
Many of Gulfport's vehicles were
destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The
Roanoke replacements should arrive in
Mississippi by the weekend.

As News 7 told you last month,
President Bush nominated former
Advance Auto CEO Nick Taubman as U-S
ambassador to Romania.
The senate has now officially
confirmed Taubman's nomination.
And yesterday Advance Auto
announced that Taubman is stepping down
from the Company's board of Directors.
Taubman is the son of the
company's founder and also served as
C-E-O.
