GRAPHIC=FFE Welcome one and all to Friday

Football Extra on this Thanksgiving
weekend!

This is our traditional regional
championship show and tonight we will
crown some champs for you from
Fredericksburg to Rural Retreat to
Bassett to Naruna... not to mention
Bedford and Salem.

GRAPHIC=SALEM/AMHERST Speaking of Salem - the Spartans

played host to their old friends from
Amherst County tonight in the Region
Three, division four title game.

Many of you may remember that
when the Stadium opened in 1986 -
Amherst was the first opponent to play
in the area's football Mecca.

OQ=...THIS I'M SURE." << This time around the Spartans and
(END SOT) Lancers hooked up with 21 wins and just

one loss between them.

Salem would threaten to make this
encounter look easy as the Spartans
find the endzone on their second
possession of the game with Cameron
Chaney punching it in from the 2. It's
7-to-nothing.

But points were few and far
between in this chess match, and it
would stay 7-to-nothing until the 4th.

Chaney fumbles the ball and
Vincent Moore picks it up and he will
take it 28 yards untouched to the
endzone to tie the game at 7-all early
in the fourth.

The Lancers would carry that
momentum to their next drive as Pierre
Tinsley keeps on the option, runs

through the Salem defense down the left
sideline and he will score from 24
yards and it's 14-to-7 Amherst with 5
minutes to play.

Salem - as it has one several
occasions this year, would answer back.
Keith Gaines floats a pass into the
left corner of the endzone to the
outstretched arms of Tony Spradlin. He
makes the catch and the officials rule
it's a touchdown and 23 yard play along
with the PAT ties it at 14-all with a
two minutes left.

But the slo-mo of the play
clearly shows that while Spradlin
defintely makes the catch and controls
the ball - his feet and body landed at
least two feet out of bounds.

The TD would get it to overtime,
and Amherst would line for a field goal
on its first possession, but Nathan
Carter ezplodes through the line and
blocks the kick.

Salem took its shot and would get
it to the one before Jonathan Murphy
hit the field goal to win.

Salem survies and advances with
the 17-to-14 overtime win.

*CG ffeloc Bassett
Magna Vista vs. Bassett The heaters were turned up on :00 full blast on the Bassett sideline as
the field temperature was 27 at
kickoff.

The Bengals would try to warm it
up a little as Marcous Muse finds
paydirt from the two to give Bassett
the early lead at 7-to-nothing.

Now early in the second quarter
with the score the same, the Warriors

would tie the game with this dive from
Lamar Brown. It's 7-all as Magna Vista
comes back.

The Bengals would also answer the
call and finish off a long drive by
Muse running it into the endzone to get
Bassett back on top 13-to-7 at the
halftime break.

Early in the third, Magna Vista
quarterback - Jonathan Williams -
catches fire as he hits Brown for a 71
yard pass play. The pitch and catch
will allow Brown to rumble into the
painted grass and make it a 14-to-13
lead in favor of the Warriors.

And Williams wasn't finished
either. He passes the rock to Eric
Spencer for the 28 yard touchdown right
down the middle of the field and the
Warriors extend their lead to 20-to-13
late in the third.

Late in the game - Bassett had
one last chance to get this thing to
overtime. Brandon Johnson will find
Elijah McCall - the son of the champ
Oliver McCall - and this he answers the
bell with the TD catch with just 35
seconds left to tie it at 20-all.
*CG 853 Final It would take two overtime to

settle this thing - but Bassett would
get it down - Johnson fakes the handoff
and then sneaks it in. The Bengals win
the Region Four Division Four title
33-to-27.

E.C. Glass vs. Massaponax Whether you were from Lynchburg :00 of Spotsylvania County you were cold
tonight - although a lot of fans at
this one opted to shop or stay at home.

Massaponax would quickly show why
they had not lost a game this season -
Jay Kenney will throw one over the
middle on the Glass defense to Octavius
Williams. He make the catch and trots
into the endzone - to make it
7-to-nothing Panthers.

E.C. Glass would fight an uphill
battle all night, and even when things
went right they didn't go right.
Justin Devaul takes off to his left on
the roll out, and just before he hits
the left sideline he fires a TD pass
to Steven Deloach. The Toppers

appeared to tie it, but a holding
penalty wiped it out and Glass would
get nothing out of it.

Massaponax would pounce on the
opportunity as Kenney fakes the handoff
and keeps and rolls 35 yards to the
house on the QB keeper. And suddenly
Glass finds itself down 14 to nothing
in the first half.

It would only get worse for the
Toppers as Devaul's pass is picked off
by Williams.

He will take it all the way back for
another touchdown.

Riverheads vs. William Campbell The wind had died down by :00 kickoff, but the temperatures also had

In the second quarter with the
game still scoreless, Riverhead's Wayne

goal and put the Gladiators on top
3-to-nothing.

William Campbell's Danny Broggin
would then jump start his offense as he
keeps and rolls right up the middle of
the field. He will dodge a couple of
defenders and pick up 25 yards before
he's taken down by the Gladiators.

On the very next play - Broggin
will hand off to Matt Barber, and
Barber will head for the far sideline,
make a sweet spin move and find the
endzone from 23 yards out. The
Generals storm back to take a 7-to-3
lead still in the second quarter.

Two possessions later, Broggin

will again let Barber tote the mail and
he will take it right up the middle for
the 15 yard score. The Generals start
to crank it up as they hit the half
with a 14-to-3 lead on the Gladiators.

In the third quarter - more
Generals and more Barber, as he looks
to haul in the pass, but instead Mark
Ray will make the interception and
return it ten yards for the visitors.

Travis Brake would then give it
to Caleb Paccadolmi, who scoots around
