(PKG)

When Saddam Hussein enters the
courtroom today, he may be the only

person in the world convinced he's
going to walk.

He and seven co-defendants stand
charged of several crimes against

humanity, but this trial focuses solely
on ordering the execution of

more than 140 people following a failed
assassination attempt on the

former dictator in Dujail in 1982.

He's already plead not guilty to the
charges, but the core of his

defense will call into question the
very legitimacy of a court his

lawyers argue is a tool under an
occupying army, and as such is illegal

under international law.

Around 30 witnesses are expected to
testify in the case, from behind a

screen, their names withheld to protect
them from retribution.

WHAT EVERYONE WANTS TO KNOW IS HOW LONG
WILL THE TRIAL LAST? PROBABLY

MONTHS, BUT NOBODY KNOWS FOR SURE.
SECONDLY, WILL SADDAM BE EXECUTED IF

FOUND GUILTY...ALMOST CERTAINLY, AND
MANY SAY THE DAY HE HANGS...WILL BE

MAJOR NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF THE
INSURGENCY.

(NATS)

...an insurgency that struck again this
morning.

A powerful roadside bomb in Baghdad
destroyed a US Bradley fighting

vehicle...three American soldiers
inside were able to escape with

injuries.

A mortar also struck the Green Zone
hours before the trial began.

US military sources have warned of an
escalation in violence as Sunni

insurgents watch their former leader on
trial -- all broadcast on Iraqi

TV.

When Saddam Hussein enters the
courtroom today, he may be the only

person in the world convinced he's
going to walk.

He and seven co-defendants stand
charged of several crimes against

humanity, but this trial focuses solely
on ordering the execution of

more than 140 people following a failed
assassination attempt on the

former dictator in Dujail in 1982.

He's already plead not guilty to the
charges, but the core of his

defense will call into question the
very legitimacy of a court his

lawyers argue is a tool under an
occupying army, and as such is illegal

under international law.

Around 30 witnesses are expected to
testify in the case, from behind a

screen, their names withheld to protect
them from retribution.

WHAT EVERYONE WANTS TO KNOW IS HOW LONG
WILL THE TRIAL LAST? PROBABLY

MONTHS, BUT NOBODY KNOWS FOR SURE.
SECONDLY, WILL SADDAM BE EXECUTED IF

FOUND GUILTY...ALMOST CERTAINLY, AND
MANY SAY THE DAY HE HANGS...WILL BE

MAJOR NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF THE
INSURGENCY.

When Saddam Hussein enters the
courtroom today, he may be the only

person in the world convinced he's
going to walk.

He and seven co-defendants stand
charged of several crimes against

humanity, but this trial focuses solely
on ordering the execution of

more than 140 people following a failed
assassination attempt on the

former dictator in Dujail in 1982.

He's already plead not guilty to the
charges, but the core of his

defense will call into question the
very legitimacy of a court his

lawyers argue is a tool under an
occupying army, and as such is illegal

under international law.

Around 30 witnesses are expected to
testify in the case, from behind a

screen, their names withheld to protect
them from retribution.

WHAT EVERYONE WANTS TO KNOW IS HOW LONG
WILL THE TRIAL LAST? PROBABLY

MONTHS, BUT NOBODY KNOWS FOR SURE.
SECONDLY, WILL SADDAM BE EXECUTED IF

FOUND GUILTY...ALMOST CERTAINLY, AND
MANY SAY THE DAY HE HANGS...WILL BE

MAJOR NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF THE
INSURGENCY.

...an insurgency that struck again this

morning.

A powerful roadside bomb in Baghdad
destroyed a US Bradley fighting

vehicle...three American soldiers
inside were able to escape with

injuries.

A mortar also struck the Green Zone
hours before the trial began.

US military sources have warned of an
escalation in violence as Sunni

insurgents watch their former leader on
trial -- all broadcast on Iraqi

TV.

Officers say they went to this
home on Mason Mill Road three times
Saturday in response to complaints
about the family's dogs.

On the third visit police say two

pit-bulls charged them, and they were
forced to fire on the dogs, killing
one.

But, the dogs' owners say the
officers shot their pregnant pit-bull
unnecessarily.

They even put up signs in their
front yard in protest.

The second dog was taken away by
animal control.
