File Tape Smithfield Packing announced today it
will begin phasing out production at
the Salem plant in late January.
The sales force will remain in the
area, but the decision will eventually
eliminate 240 jobs here.
Smithfield says the Salem facility is
one of its older and smaller plants and
needs significant renovation.
The company says it makes economic
sense to move production to newer and
more efficient facilities.

winning 20 times and Tech 10 with one
tie.
But the Seminoles have won the
last 11 meetings. In fact, Tech's last
win over Florida State was a 13-to-10
victory at Lane Stadium in 1975.
More on the game for you tonight
at the top of the hour - including
reaction from Frank Beamer who once
again has been named ACC coach of the
year.
