An accident is blocking Route
221 on Bent Mountain in Roanoke County.
There are few details about the
vehicles involved or injuries, but
police dispatchers expect the road to
be closed for about two hours at the
S-curves near the top of the mountain.

schools.

display were a little too real for some
shoppers at a New Orleans mall.
The Katrina-themed
display featured damaged homes, rescues
and piles of debris.
The designer said he
meant to portray the events with a bit
of dark humor.

was removed.

hours away from becoming the 1000th
person to be put to death in the modern
era of capital punishment.
After reviewing the facts and
circumstances of the crimes and
convictions, Governor Mike Easley said
tonight he found no compelling reason
to grant clemency.
Kenneth Boyd's execution is
scheduled for 2:00 A-M in Raleigh. He
was convicted of killing his wife and
father-in-law in Rockingham County,
North Carolina in 1988.

robbery on the campus of Lynchburg
College was "not" a random act of
violence.

Two armed men burst into a dorm
room in Hundley Hall early Tuesday and
stole cash and cellphones at gunpoint
from the residents.
Authorities now say some drugs
were stolen as well ... and that the

police, making it difficult to make any
arrests.

displacing people, it left many pets
with no place to go.

Firefighters in Houston rushed to a
manhole this morning after a woman
called 9-1-1 and said her two-year-old
baby was stuck in the sewer.
Firefighters arrived and quickly pulled
up the sewer cover, only to find a
two-year-old cat.
It turns out the cat's name is "Baby."
The cat was pulled to safety and is
doing fine.
Houston fire officials said it's not
the kind of rescue they normally do.
So, the owner of the cat was cited for
filing a false report, a crime
punishable with up to six months in
jail.

Virginia Beach native ripped through
the North Carolina defense for a career
high 134.
Add that to the 113 he racked up
against UVa the week before - and Humes

yards Brandon Ore has accounted for the
past two weeks and it's easy to see why
the the questions about Tech's running
game have died down.

Humes play has been somewhat
amazing when you consider that he broke
his arm in the Marshall game had
surgery and returned to action just 19
days later with a metal plate in his
right forearm.
The recovery is almost the exact
opposite from the way he came back from
a broken ankle that hindered most of
