son sends both to the hospital with
stab wounds.

Officers were called to the
300-block of Gilmer Avenue around five
o'clock yesterday.
When they arrived they found
40-year-old Martin Lee Whorley and a
14-year-old -both suffering from stab
wounds.
The two were taken to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.
No word on their conditions.
Police say no charges are pending
at this time and the investigation is
ongoing.

Regional Jail crashes after running a
red light.

VO-NAT It happened around five
o-clock yesterday on Route 58 just west
of Hillsville.
These pictures were e-mailed to
us by David Young.
State Troopers say the
driver of the van was blinded by the
sun, ran a red light and hit an
Asplundh truck.
There were six inmates in
the van.
Two of them were injured along
with two people in the pickup truck.
State police say they were
taken to the hospital, but troopers did
not know the extent of their injuries.
The driver of the van,
Charles Dunavant, was charged with
failure to obey a traffic signal.

victim.
He was 67-year old Sidney W.

One person was injured in a wreck
in front of Wal-Mart on Route 220
yesterday afternoon.
Rescue workers had to rip the top
off the overturned van to get the
victim out.
The accident tied up traffic for
a time.
No word yet on who was hurt or
the person's condition.

overloading the Cave Spring Post
office.
Mail will be forwarded for one
year-- giving people a chance to notify

Foundation held its annual fundraiser
last night at the Hotel Roanoke.
"Holiday Couture- Saving Children
is Always in Style" was the name of the
event.
The William Fleming High School
Gospel Choir opened up the event and
then these women strutted their stuff
to raise money for abused and neglected
children.
CASA has 55-trained volunteers
who work with children every day.

back.

Nearly five years after the death
of the rail photographer, the caboose
returned to Roanoke Saturday.
It was built in 1965, and so it
is actually a decade too new to have
been included in any of Link's famous
photographs.
Nevertheless he took pride in
having his own caboose.
All the windows had been broken
out by vandals in upstate New York.
The refurbished caboose will
become a featured exhibit of the Link
Museum early next year.
