may have been a factor in a fatal
accident on Bent Mountain Road.

Last Night Authorities say a Ford Explorer
driven by Justin Emmanuel Showalter was
traveling southbound on Bent Mountain
Road, south of Coleman Road, when it
crossed into the northbound lane.
The Explorer struck a tractor
trailer head-on.
Showalter was taken to a local
hospital where he later died.
Two other passengers in the
explorer were also taken to the
hospital.
Their conditions are not known at
this time.

artist renditions at a public forum
last night.
One option is to build the
stadium at Patrick Henry, so the stands
on the home side would face a hill.
The idea is to cut down on the
noise in surrounding neighborhoods.
The last of four community
meetings on the stadium issue takes
place next Thursday night in the P-H
cafeteria.

robbery on the campus of Lynchburg
College may have been drug related and
not a random act of violence.

It happened early Tuesday inside
Hundley Hall on the Lynchburg College
campus.
Two 19-year-old male residents
say the suspects burst into their room
wearing ski masks and brandishing
handguns.
They stole about two hundred
dollars and two cellphones ... and now
police say some drugs were taken as
well.
They say the two 19-year-old male
students are not cooperating with
police, making it difficult to make any
arrests.
Authorities says parents and
students should not be worried about
their safety on the L-C campus.

for her life after suffering burns
while on the job.

Officials say Meghan Smith is in
critical condition at a North Carolina
hospital.
Smith was severely burned while
working at the Log House Restaurant
Wednesday afternoon.
Co-workers say she was waiting on
a table around 4:30 when she
accidentally backed into the fireplace.
Smith has severe burns over most
of her body.

County Administrator Larry Moore
announced his resignation by e-mail
Monday.
According to county supervisor
Lisa Campbell, Moore was frustrated
with not being able to accomplish as
much as he would have liked.
Campbell says the board was aware
Moore was unhappy, but surprised at the
timing of his resignation.

In Lynchburg, G-L-T-C offered
free rides all day on every route.
Officials say it's one small way
to remember Rosa Parks' courage.
G-L-T-C's director says the

of thousand dollars.

81 has many Wytheville residents
talking.

Released this week, the study
says a 9 mile stretch of the interstate
through Wytheville may eventually need
to be completely moved.
Officials say business and
homeowners are concerned.
The owners of the Wohlfharht Haus
Dinner Theatre even moved next to the
Interstate 6 years ago just because of
the location.
38-thousand people come to see
performances each year and 80 percent
of them are from out of state.

Roanoke police officer shot and killed
a pregnant pit bull.

VO-NAT Police were called after two pit
bulls got out of their yard- -not once-
-but twice.
When an officer finally found one
of the missing animals, he said it
charged him and he was forced to shoot.
The other animal was picked up by
animal control and may be put down.
The owners are outraged, but
officers say it was justified.
