GRAPHIC=Accident No official word from Roanoke police on

whether anyone died in last night's

accident on Gus Nicks Boulevard.

Several people on the scene say it
would be amazing if the victims did
survive.

It happened on Gus Nicks Boulevard just
off of Orange Avenue.

Police say the driver of this Saturn
was making a left from Old Vinton Mill
Road onto Gus Nicks when he was hit by
a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Eyewitnesses say the Eclipse and
another vehicle were drag racing, and
the Saturn driver didn't have time to
see it coming.

Roanoke Police are releasing very few
details at this point.

All they would say is no charges have
been filed.

holiday season in a big way, and in
more ways than one, a tree was very
much the center of attention.

A few hundred people turned out for
the annual tree-lighting ceremony at
Wachovia Plaza.

Some were still talking about the

decision to call it a "holiday" tree
rather than a Christmas tree.

Though it has been a *holiday* tree
for several years, this is the first
time it's caused so much controversy.

from last nights festivities.

Choral groups sang traditional
Christmas carols such as "Silent Night"

and "Oh Christmas Tree."

After the lighting, the festivities
moved to the market for a Dickens of a
Christmas.

the mall has literally drawn the

curtain on it.

The reaction prompted the mall

Roanoke police on whether anyone died
in last night's accident on Gus Nicks
Boulevard.

Several people on the scene say it
would be amazing if the victims did
survive.

Avenue.

Police say the driver of this Saturn
was making a left from Old Vinton Mill
Road onto Gus Nicks when he was hit by

a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Eyewitnesses say the Eclipse and
another vehicle were drag racing.

holiday season in a big way, and in
more ways than one, a tree was very
much the center of attention.

the annual tree-lighting ceremony at
Wachovia Plaza.

Some were still talking about the
decision to call it a "holiday" tree
rather than a Christmas tree.

Though it has been a *holiday* tree

for a Roanoke fire.

The fire broke out in a duplex on

Hamilton Terrace Road late yesterday
afternoon.

No one was home, but firefighters did
rescue a dog from the building.

It was later discovered another dog
died inside.

Damage estimates top 25- thousand
dollars.

The home is a total loss. Residents
are staying with friends.

were robbed at gunpoint in their dorm
room this week have been expelled from
school.

Police believe the two men had been
dealing drugs on campus and that drugs
were stolen from them Tuesday.

The college issued a statement
yesterday, pointing out that the
sanction for dealing drugs at Lynchburg

College is expulsion and that the

the bodies of two New Hampshire
children murdered more than two years
ago.

The children's father, Manuel
Gehring, admitted to killing them in
2003 but told police he could not
pinpoint the spot where he buried them.

He was able to describe the site.
Police say the graves they recently
uncovered in Hudson, Ohio are just as
he described.

Gehring was in a custody battle
involving his two children, when he
says he shot them after 4th of July
fireworks show. Gehring ended up
killing himself in jail.

in the streets --but probably not the
way he planned it.
