door of a jetway - the lifeless body of
44 year old Rigoberto Alpizar. Shot
dead by Federal Marshals - earlier
Wednesday at Miami international
Airport.

"HE FLEW IN FROM QUITO AND CLEARED
CUSTOMS AND WAS HEADED TO ORLANDO."

The U.S. citizen - from Maitland
Florida - had been a passenger on board
American Airlines flight 924 when he
was confronted.

HE UTTERED THREATENING WORDS WHICH
INCLUDED HE HAD A BOMB.

According to an eyewitness, Alipizar
ran down the aisle flailing his arms
with his wife not far behind.
Explaining his behavior as mental
illness.

Authorities say he then ran from the
airplane parked at the gate. After
being ordered by Marshals to stop -

Alpizar obeyed - but then made a move
for his bag...

"HE WAS NONCOMPLIANT - AND HIS
NONCOMPLIANCE CAUSED THEM TO FIRE SHOTS
AND HE IS NOW DECEASED."

Thousands of Air Marshals were hired to
a program - that before 9-11 - had
about 33 marshals. The exact number in
their ranks now is classified - and
which planes they get on is closely
guarded. This marks the first time a
Federal Air Marshal has ever had to
fire his weapon.

charges of fraud and obstruction of
justice.

federal grand jury in Roanoke. The
seven-count indictment alleges he
defrauded a Lynchburg charity, and two
social security recipients, then made
false statements and created false
documents to explain his actions.

for a brief news conference. Lawyer
John Fishwick said Hutcherson has
served the people of Lynchburg as a
pastor and mayor and is committed to
helping people, not hurting them.

Rhonda Hodges is a mail carrier
in Roanoke who's been bitten four
times.

One bite was so severe she had to
have 20 stitches in her arm and missed
work for two months.

The postal service urges patrons
to keep dogs inside when the mail
carrier comes by.

on a chain or in a pen where they can
NOT reach the mail box.

molesting several boys killed himself
last night.

Commonwealth's Attorney Chris
Rehak says Roger Dale Gilbert was
supposed to plead guilty and go to jail
today.

Gilbert owned rental properties
in the area and was accused of luring
boys from those properties to his
house.

He was charged with five counts
of aggravated sexual battery in the
city and faced 30 more charges in
Pulaski County.

to kill four hostages in Iraq have
extended their deadline.

VO-NAT Al-Jazeera T-V reports that the

group calling itself the Swords of
Righteousness has extended the deadline
to Saturday for the U-S and Britain to
free all Iraqi prisoners.

The original deadline was
tomorrow.

The hostages include Tom Fox of
Clear Brook, a town near Winchester.

trial went on today without him.

A court official says Saddam
attended a closed-door hearing before
the public session, but the court
decided to excuse him.

Yesterday, Saddam insisted he
would not return to an *unjust* court.

He WILL attend the trial's next
session on December 21st.

after undergoing an experimental stem
cell procedure on his heart.

VO-NAT The Hawaiian performer underwent a new

treatment so far not been approved in
the United States.

It involves multiplying stem cells
taken from his blood and injecting them
into his heart in hopes of
strengthening it.

After the treatment, Ho's vital signs
were said to be excellent, but the
75-year old crooner remains seriously
ill in intensive care.
