The Ku Klux Klan member who owns
it says he had an American,

Pulaski town officials say among
the parade entries this vehicle was
plastered with Ku Klux Klan and
Confederate bumper stickers and a
hand-lettered door sign with holiday
greetings from the white-supremacist
group.

Town Manger John Hawley would not
discuss the incident too much with us,
but he did say that residents will not
allow one vehicle in a Christmas parade
to split up the Pulaski community.

Also organizers say they were not
aware of the entry, but apologized to

anyone who was offended.

sex abuse charges in Radford.

The grand jury returned 120
counts against Josiah Baker
yesterday... according to the
Commonwealth's Attorney's office.

Baker was arrested Sunday and
now faces sodomy, sexual battery and
indecent liberty charges.

statewide award, a team that saved the
life of a Roanoke County man severely
injured in a farm accident on New
Year's Day was recognized.

The man's leg was caught in a
tractor auger, and had to be amputated
at the scene near Catawba.

A State Police helicopter carried the
patient to Carilion Roanoke Memorial
Hospital for additional surgery.

Yesterday, the emergency room
doctor who assisted at the scene
praised the emergency medical personnel
from several different agencies who
responded.

The Roanoke County Fire and
Rescue Department received the
Governor's Award for Outstanding E-M-S

club.

Twenty five teenagers were
treated to a shopping spree at J-C
Penney at Tanglewood Mall Tuesday.

A five thousand dollar grant from

the Civitan Club of Roanoke allowed
each kid to buy several outfits.

The goal of the project is to
teach them how to dress for success.

Radford resident and gold medalist--

This Saturday, 74-year-old Harold
Connolly's hometown of Boston will
unveil a larger-than-life bronze
sculpture of him outside his old high
school.

He won the Olympic hammer throw
back in 19-56 in Melbourne, Australia.

He actually went to four Olympic
games, and broke the world record seven
times.

Connolly also overcame great
odds.

His left arm was damaged at
birth...making the hammer throw even
more challenging.

Connolly was the director of the
U-S Special Olympics for eleven years.


He continues to help coach young
men and women who want to compete in
the Olympics for the hammer-throw.

since a shooting in Roanoke left one
woman dead and one man injured.


The suspect now faces a new
upgraded charge.

Michael Edward Holmes on an aggravated
malicious wounding charge
*CG locator Roanoke Holmes was initially charged this July summer with murder and malicious
wounding in the death of 37-year-old
Connie Michelle Mills and the wounding
of 50-year-old David Macklin Ray.

Commonwealth's Attorney Don
Caldwell says this upgrade in the
malicious wounding charge will allow
the city to seek an additional sentence
of 20 to life for Holmes, as opposed to
a sentence of five to 20-years.

His trial is scheduled to begin
February 9th.

GRAPHIC=Fire Authorities aren't sure what


started a fire that destroyed a Bedford
County home.

About three dozen firefighters
responded to the call on Pendleton Road
around 9:30 yesterday morning.

They arrived to find smoke and
flames pouring from the two-story
farmhouse.

Crews were able to keep the fire
from spreading to nearby buildings, but
the home was a total loss.

The homeowner's son was slightly
injured when he spotted the smoke and
kicked in the front door trying to get
to the fire to put it out himself.
