Now they say - via an internet posting
...they have executed him. Its
authenticity could not be independently

The statement did not identify the
alleged hostage, and provided no
evidence to back up their words - but
the group said proof of the execution
in pictures would come later.
After a lull of several months,
kidnappings here have surged. Two weeks
ago -- four Westerners were abducted in
Baghdad...an American, a Briton, and
two Canadians...working for a Christian
aid group in Iraq.
Their captors -- a different group -
extended a deadline and are now
threatening to execute them by this

American and British soldiers leave

GRAPHIC=BAM College football's bowl season
gets underway in a week and a half.
The Orange Bowl though won't be played
until January third. But Penn State
held its bowl media day yesterday.
Only Joe Paterno wouldn't allow any
players to show up. Joe Pa had a very
logical explanation in advance of his
team's game with Florida State.

They're lined up at the National
Zoo to see Tai Shan, the panda cub.
He's recently taken an interest
in playing with a plastic ball.
Tai Shan- -whose name means
"Peaceful Mountain"- -has begun
mimicking his Mom, pretending to eat
bamboo. The baby is still nursing, so
his consumption of bamboo is still
several months off.
The cub's parents are on a
ten-year loan to the National Zoo from
China.
