say he will fight the charges of fraud

federal grand jury in Roanoke
yesterday. The seven-count indictment
alleges he defrauded a Lynchburg
charity, and two social security
recipients, then made false statements
and created false documents to explain
his actions.

attorneys for a brief news conference.
Lawyer John Fishwick said Hutcherson
has served the people of Lynchburg as a
pastor and mayor and is committed to
helping people, not hurting them.

molesting several boys killed himself
Tuesday night.

Commonwealth's Attorney Chris
Rehak says Roger Dale Gilbert was
supposed to plead guilty and go to jail
yesterday.

Gilbert owned rental properties
in the area and was accused of luring
boys from those properties to his
house.

He was charged with five counts
of aggravated sexual battery in the
city and faced 30 more charges in

Pulaski County.

to keep their dogs away from mail
carriers.

up.

In Roanoke, there were four
in 2003; three last year.

THIS this year the number jumped
to nine.

Rhonda Hodges is a mail
carrier in Roanoke who's been bitten
four times.

One bite was so severe she had to
have 20 stitches in her arm and missed
work for two months.

The postal service urges patrons
to keep dogs inside when the mail
carrier comes by.

If dogs ARE out, make sure
they're on a chain or in a pen where
they can NOT reach the mail box.

wants Virginia to get tough with dog
owners.

Senator Ed Houck says he'll
introduce a dangerous dog bill in the
next General Assembly session.

If passed, dog owners would
face felony punishments and higher
home-insurance premiums if their dogs

Last night, a crowd of about 100
people turned out for the county's
annual Christmas tree lighting.

They sang Christmas Carols and
made Christmas cookies.

This year's tree is 40 feet tall
and weighs more than four thousand
pounds

That's why it took nearly a week
to put the tree up in the parking lot
of the Tanglewood Mall.

townhomes.

The residents say the developers
improperly installed the septic tanks
behind their homes, causing them to
cave in after a storm in 2003.
